aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Seraphina was almost bowled over by Vlad’s enthusiastic greeting, though she returned his nuzzling -albeit it much more gently. “You are… you are…” Sera’s head cocked in confusion, not understanding his shock. “I wasn’t gone that long, was I?” She gave the prince a small smile, and nudged him with her paw, though he quickly turned away. She knew not of the nightmares that had plagued him while she had slept peacefully. Had she, Sera would have been far more comforting, but as it were she was simply a bit perplexed at Vlad’s reaction. Perhaps one day he would confide such things to her, as she would have wished, but for now that was not the case.

A chuckle escaped the prince as he tore half the rabbit away from Seraphina. “I don’t know, I kind of like living out here in the open. Besides, if it means I get breakfast service everyday then it’s totally worth it.” Vlad winked as Sera reached out to swipe at him and leapt back, anticipating her mouth. The princess clicked her tongue at him disapprovingly.

“Just for that you owe me breakfast tomorrow.” Seraphina rolled her emeralds playfully. It was a great comfort that their relationship had settled back to what it had been before. She had missed Vlad greatly the months that they had been apart, her heart aching for him. Though she had denied that she loved him then, it was his friendship, his companionship, that she had longed for more than anything. And even as their relationship would deepen, that was what she wanted to retain more than anything. Sera had always heard stories of mates who were best friends as well as lovers, even her parents more formal relationship had conveyed this message in some ways, and that was always what she had wanted. Perhaps in an arranged marriage this would not be possible, but now it was. And Seraphina couldn’t help the fond smile that she had as she watched the prince. Her best friend, her soulmate. There was little more she could ask for.

“But yeah, I guess so.” Vlad began as the two finished their meal. “I doubt the place I use as my own den even exists anymore given the changes. We should… explore it all first I guess. Which boundary should we head toward first? North, east, south, or west? I mean, we are closest to the lake, so should just head there?” Sera’s face lit up at the sound of the lake. Of course they would start with the lake. It was only logical, given its importance to them. She wondered if the caves - or their caves, as she’d taken to calling them - were still there, or if the changes had taken them away. Sera hoped it was the former. Like the lake, the caves were special to the pair. “I say we start with the lake.” She stood, excited for a chance to see what the new terra had in store for the pair. Seraphina began to lead the way, knowing Vlad would follow along. His pawsteps stopped suddenly and Sera turned to look at him, brows raised in a silent question.

“By… by our den, do you mean me and you? Do you mean that you want to stay with me? I mean, don’t get me wrong I want you to stay with me, and I want to stay with you. But I don’t want you to feel... pressure? Not that I could ever pressure you to do anything you didn’t want to do. I just mean… we are… I love you.” Sera blushed and looked at her paws, giggling both from Vlad’s flustered state and out of her own bubbly nervousness. Not nervousness from fear, but from excitement and novelty.

“Of course I mean you and me, silly. You’re the only one I would ever want to stay with, Vlad.” Seraphina closed the gap between them to bump against the prince, smiling shyly at him. “I’m not worried that you’ll pressure me; I trust you. I mean, I was the one who said it in the first place. If anything I should be the one worrying about pressuring you.”

“Of course it will be me and you, you’re my soulmate and I am yours. I never want to spend a night away from you again.” Sera blushed once more, quickly starting up their journey again and hoping Vlad didn’t notice the heat rising from her cheeks. Like the prince, she was easily flustered in these sorts of situations, but Vlad didn’t need to know that.

The vibrance of the lake was shocking indeed and Sera certainly would have marveled at it had her goal not been so singular. The princess headed straight for the former location of the caves that she, Vladimir, and Castiel had played in all those moons ago, that she and Vlad had explored and truly started to understand their feelings in. The ess barked out a joyful yelp and turned to look back at Vlad. “I’ve found the caves!” There was no need to elaborate on that. Vlad would understand. With a grin Sera disappeared into the hole and crouched in the darkness near the entrance. When Vlad came, she would attempt to pounce on him and send the two of them tumbling further into the caves, and if she missed would go back on her own, hoping Vlad would join her fun and follow. A warm feeling spread through her chest and the shyness Sera had felt before was muted. For someone who had once feared the dark, it now made her very feel brave.
