'cause oh i'm bleeding out inside; oh i don't even mind

Quinn stuck by Echidna and her terrible things because he was just as terrible back then. He's not sure where he has gotten to by now, if he softer or worse or something else entirely. Quinn was, however, still able to admire the way that Echidna was covered in blood and guts and laughing. He doesn't see her laugh much anymore, not like that. Not in a way that makes him think of the happier times. Perhaps that makes all the difference; he doesn't know for sure. But Quinn does know that they both had understood a lot of parts of each other that he did not think that others would. Or at least he had thought that way back then, that that way for a long, long time. Now he wasn't sure about that anymore, and it was a painful realization to have. Who was left that actually did understand him now? Anyone at all?

He doesn't want his mind to go to that area, not when things were going so well at the moment. He likes the warmth he's feeling in his chest right now, and he wants to keep it going, feed into it. It's the best he's felt in awhile, and okay, there was a little pain in realizing that, too, yet Quinn couldn't deny it for what it was. They'd been reckless back then, didn't care what anyone thought of them, had so much potential and somehow it didn't matter all that much when he had been with her. He still had it, but at that point in time he had just left so much behind to start anew. How strange it was to think about so many things that had happened back then, and wonder what he had been thinking, and wonder what he was missing now that he hadn't been back then. Because Quinn knows he's missing vital pieces and parts.

Even now, though, with all that they had been through and all that they might not be anymore and the changes they had gone through, Quinn still thinks that Echidna was the one he could tell all his dirty little secrets to and not feel like she'd hold it all against him. Or that was what he hoped for, and maybe what made a friendship easier for him because it wouldn't ruin something it was not to begin with. A complex sort of thing to try and wrap his mind around, sure, but it opened up new doors for him that he had thought they had closed firmly behind them some time ago. So he takes her pinky with his and he grins because all of this could be good for them both. He chuckles at the way she tugs his pinky at herself, pounces and bites at their fingers with that little growl, and he rumbles playfully right back at her.

The she was apologizing and letting his pinky go, and he relaxes his arms, hands at his lap as he shakes his head at her. "Don't apologize. It's nice to be able to be like this again." He points out lightly, and then he watches her look around, and listens to her speak about it getting late. "Yeah, I guess it is." He agrees evenly, just settled there as Echidna looks for her clothing. She asks about if they could go hunting again soon, that she liked hunting with him. He smiled, nodded. "That would be nice. We do hunt well together." And that was true, no matter what state they otherwise were in with each other. That part had remained the same through it all, but maybe that had to do with how natural a hunt was for both of them; how effortless it was. And it's something to keep holding onto.
