Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

Dexter
male.12 years old.35in, 145#.born to MothxCoszcotl.sibling to Amoxtli&Zeltzin.unable to bind.mated to none.father to Eztli, Lixue, Petra, Citlalli, & Itzel.Taviora

There was never a question in his mind that both of the girls he loved were intelligent and cunning enough to figure him out. That was what scared him. He knew it was only a matter of time before the kids said something or Tuari or Talien ran into one of the kids from the other's litter. It was a large pack land but a pretty tight knit group. A year was impossible to think that in that time frame, they wouldn't already know, and yet he was a coward. He hadn't brought it up because he feared the consequences. He chose to pretend ignorance and hoped that they would do the same to keep that happy little world he had created with both families. But he knew it wouldn't last and so he decided it was time to be a man and talk to them. Talien had been lying low, mothering her children but keeping to herself so he would speak to Tuari first. She was his best friend and he had spent a lot of time with her after the birthing. They had taken the kids on a hunt together and he was enjoying having his best friend back again. But the feelings were starting again and this time winter had nothing to do with it. Winter was past and yet he still got butterflies around her. She didn't have to make a sound to make his throat feel parched and his brain get all fuzzy. He sometimes felt awkward around her for no reason at all and he didn't like it because he was used to being so smooth and comfortable. He knew she would ask him what was going on eventually so maybe they could broach that subject as well while he was here. He didn't want to hurt anyone but in the meantime, he was hurting them both and that wasn't fair either. He knew it would break Talien's heart but he didn't know what else to do. He had to choose.

Eztli hadn't told him about meeting Tuari but of course his son didn't tell him a lot anyways. He was always so angry at the world and kept to himself when he wasn't trying to attack Lixue for no reason. Dexter worried about him and hoped that he would find himself soon. It had crossed his mind many times to bring him to Tuari becuase he knew Eztli was mute just like her but there would be no way to go around the inevitable then. She would take one look at him and know he was Dexter's son. Then he would have to tell her everything. He was a coward and didn't want to lose that happy bubble he had built up so strongly around both families. But all things must come to an end eventually. He wondered if either of them had had similar thoughts if or when they found out about the other. Did they meet behind his back and talk about it? Make some kind of compromise? Were they just trying to protect his feelings at this point? He wouldn't put it past either of them and it made him feel that much worse to have kept it all in. He knew he would feel better once he told them. Now was a propitious time and even if it wasn't, it was still as good a time as any.

When he finally saw her, his heart leapt into his throat as it always did and all at once, he found it hard to breathe. But he pushed past that lump in his throat, watching her tilt her head expectantly at him. She knew something was up and she had that knowing look in her eyes like she might even know what he was coming to talk to her about. He let out a deep breath, knowing he was going to need all his courage. This felt so hard all at once, like the air was too stuffy and he couldn't breathe but he knew that was just his nerves. He tried to meet her gaze, offering a sheepish smile and his eyes softened. "I messed up, Tuari. Big time. I fathered two litters last winter when I didn't deserve even one. The girl I told you about, Talien, she approached me a few nights after I met with you and....well, I wish I could blame it on anything other than my stupidity but that would just be a lame excuse. She had two children, a boy and a girl. Eztli and Lixue. They're beautiful. Eztli is like you. He can't talk and he's so angry all the time because he can't communicate. He's very violent, especially with his sister and mother. I've been meaning to talk to you about him. I just couldn't....I'm a coward. I didn't want to lose the happiness we've had over the past year with the children. They're my world, Tuari. All of them. And you and Talien mean so much to me.

"But I'm hurting you both and I can't take that either. You have every right to hate me or want me out of your life. You know it'll kill me to lose you but it's your choice. All I ask is that you please don't make me stay away from my children. If losing you kills me, then losing them too would be the last nail in the coffin. I love you, Tuari. It's always been you. I care about Talien. There's no doubt about that. But you're my best friend. You're my confidante. You're my heart and soul's other half. I know you may not be able to answer me back on this right now and that's okay. You take all the time you need. But eventually I'll come back to fight for your forgiveness and ask you again and again because there's nothing I want more now that I know what my heart's been trying to tell me all along. I want you to be my mate, Tuari. My partner, for life. No more mistakes. When I talk to Talien, I'll let her know that we can be no more than friends. Even if you keep telling me no, I'll remain faithful to the idea because you deserve that and more. I'll join a convent, make a vow of celibacy, all to your service. You are what makes me weak and strong all at once. You are my kryptonite and my elixir. I want you and only you, forever and always. I'm sorry to drop all this on you at once. I knew if I didn't just put it all out there, I might never get up the courage to do it again so here it all is. Better or for worse, I'm yours to command."

He didn't know what to do now. His heart was hammering in his chest. He was sure he was sweating under his coat and his eyes felt close to tears just from sheer lack of blinking. He felt like he had just shoveled all that out on the ground in one big mound in front of her and now he felt empty. Well, relieved and empty. Finally, he had told her. Somehow he felt that telling Talien might even be a little easier. Not because he didn't care about her, but because Tuari's opinion of him meant so much. She was his best friend long before she was the mother of his children. This was meant to be. He just knew it. Now he just had to convince her to forgive him for his stupidity long enough to make her see it too.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
