Blue light is really harsh on the eyes, and damaging (http://www.bluelightexposed.com/). When I spend a ton of time in writing programs, like Word or Pages, I use "f.lux's" dark room. It filters out all blue light and leaves red light for you to look at instead. Red light is easier on the eyes.

Dark room and all settings of f.lux can be accessed/turned off if you need them to be via an option bar that is added to your tool bar.
