Mexico City -- With a bag to distribute 205 thousand pesos, of which 50 thousand will be for the jai alai, will be held from November 2-5, the 6th Fronton Festival Arturo Mundet, which will also include the 6th Copa de Frontenis, in honor of Eduardo Ampudia García Guala; the 5th Leather Palette Cup; the Pre-Olympic Frontenac Tournament (yellow ball); Hand Display Hard 3 walls; Pala Corta Exhibition and Jai Alai Invitation Tournament.
The professional pelotari Juan Pablo Osorno and Alejandro Safont, coach of jai alai at Club Mundet, venue of the event, and organizers of the Jai Alai Invitation Tournament, provided information on the completion of this traditional ball festival.
WITH THE JAI ALAI
Osorno, current pelotari of Frontón Mexico explained that the registration will be limited to eight pairs for the final phase, where will be the best Mexican pelotaris of the present time.
"However a week before, October 28 and 29, we will have an open tournament where all the couples who want to join, including youth and amateurs, will be able to register. The four best doubles will have access to the final where they will be added to the eight seeded to complete 12 and will play in three groups of four and advance to the semifinals the top three places and the best second place, "said Juan Pablo.
Osorno clarified that the Jai Alai Invitation Tournament will be on November 3, 4 and 5 and are intended to be the best pelotaris in Mexico.
"If they confirm, they will be unpacked for the World Cup in Biarritz, ideally as strikers would be Daniel Inclán, Ochoa, Ortega, Polanco, Juan León, Gonzalo Sierra, Angel, Fidel and Nacho Puertas, while as defenders would be Perez , Echenique, Cordova, Christophe, perhaps Ituarte, Lardizabal, Safont and your servant ".
Alejandro Safont commented: "With the tournament open, everyone, amateurs and second-rate amateurs are given a chance, because if they qualify, the top two players can play in the final tournament with the highest level players could find an opportunity to debut soon in the Frontón Mexico because it is a showcase for the intendant Pedro Andrinúa.
Similarly, managers agreed that these plans can go further and extend for the sake of the fan and for the growth of the sport.
"This is the first step to achieve in the near future that is the beginning of what could be called Circuito Serial de México. We want to have a tournament in the Mundet, another in Spain, one in Acapulco and why not, then in Frontón Mexico already in full season.
Then we would continue the circuit, perhaps starting in Mexico before closing and in the clubs mentioned above, which would guarantee eight or nine months of jai alai in our country. Each tournament would score points so that a champion emerges, is a model that is already done in tennis and other sports.
The idea is to generate a virtuous circle of dissemination and sponsorships and guaranteed bags for the pelotaris, and as they grow, you can bring the best pelotaris in the world. It's about spreading so that more sponsors are interested, "said Osorno.
AN OASIS IN THE CITY
"It's a ball party. We want to invite everyone to live it ... coming to the Mundet Club is as our slogan says
'An oasis in the city', "said the club's general manager.
"We have alternate venues such as the Chapultepec Sports Center, the Tecamachalco Club and the Lebanese Club, which bring us different categories. He
Club Mundet is about 71 years old, started as a living space for the Spanish community in Mexico. It is a celebration in memory of our founder Don Arturo Mundet, "he concluded.
