Sad News from Jane on Facebook
Please excuse the rather crass use of telling you ALL on face book but I am short of time. This morning I found Dad to be very unwell. I was to take him to hospital for some palliative radiotherapy to reduce some pain from nerve compression in his neck caused by bone cancer. I found Dads Jaw to be swollen and angry from an infected abscess that was stubborn to shift with antibiotics. This morning, the infection was swelling visibly by the minute and closing his mouth and airway. Dad was delirious with infection, and was drifting in and out of consciousness in the car on the way to the hospital. I made a huge fuss and Thank God I did to have my Dad be given a bed and be treated. Tonight he has undergone emergency surgery of 4 hours to reduce the swelling in his jaw and throat as it was suffocating him and had become a touch & go situation. He has had the massive pocket of infected fluid in his jaw removed and now has 2 drains in place, iv antibiotics and a blood transfusion. He pulled through and I have just spoken with him, he already sounds more lucid than he did this afternoon
