Only You Are the Life Among the Dead

The afternoon turned to night as the sun set, leaving the world around it in darkness. Only the moon and stars gave light to those that were still awake, or to those that were just waking. Khaleesi began to wonder if she should leave, or continue to wait. But she had come all this way to she figured it would be worth it in the end. The femme knew that things in the world had changed, she had seen it all physically change with Aindreas and heard about his own personal change to a Tempest. But she still did not know that vampires existed, even the thought of them was not something that her mind had come to cross on its own. But the naïve femme was in for a surprise as she waited at the borders of a pack that was filled with the creatures of the night. When she heard the sound of an approaching varg, she got to her paws, a relaxed smile reaching her kissers as she padded closer to the border, still making sure not to cross. She didn’t want to break any rules, especially since she was here for another pack, but she was excited to meet a new wolf. It had been a while since she had interacted with a stranger.

Khaleesi was happy to see the strange form a teen coming to greet her. Aindreas had not said that they needed to talk to the alpha of whatever pack they visited, just that they learn what changes had gone on after all the lands transformed. So any pack member would do, and it did not matter to Khaleesi. The pair of females, opposite in appearance, exchanged names in greeting. She noticed that there was no scent to the other femme, something that she had not encountered before. What could make that happen? She had never heard of any type of genetic mutations that would cause a being to have no scent, so what was it? The other peculiarity she noticed was the bright crimson shade to her eyes, almost glowing. Similar to Aindreas’ shade of blue, except this one red. What kind of unique wolves lived here?

When Khaleesi told Diosa where she was from, the younger femme tasted the pack’s name on her tongue as she repeated it. The other female was young still, maybe she was still learning about the other packs that were within Blossom. She definitely did not know about everything else that was around outside of her own home until she was older. “I don’t really remember much, honestly, I sleep an awful lot during the day cause the light hurts my eyes. I could die if I was out in the daylight. What’s your pack like? Do you have any vampires or are all of you normal wolves? What is it like being normal? Sorry that was rude of me to ask…” For a moment all Khaleesi could do was stare at Diosa. Vampire? Had she heard that correctly? Green orbs blinked in confusion as she processed the words, shaking her head to clear it. As she thought about it though, it made sense. Her orbs were an unnatural red color, just like Aindreas’ shade when he changed. And she had no scent. Nothing else could explain these things, and if there was magic back in the lands what would stop the world from also having vampires.

Finally Khaleesi spoke, not wanting to just stare at the other femme rudely as she had been doing. ”No, um…it wasn’t rude. I’m sorry, you are the first vampire I’ve met.” She paused a moment to clear her scrambling thoughts once more, trying to make coherent sentences. ”We do not have any vampires in my pack.” She paused once more, was being Tempest something thing Aindreas wanted the world to know? Or was it private? Khaleesi had often blurted out things that should not have been said in the past, and she had learned from her mistakes and so she decided not to share this for now. ”My pack is like a big family. A lot of us have grown up there, I did anyways. So most of us are very close. I don’t have anymore of my family in the pack, my mother and brother both left. Do you have family here?” She gave the other femme a smile, hoping her question was okay. Just because she was a vampire didn’t mean she was evil right? Wolves hunted and killed other beings to eat, so couldn’t vampires feed from their own kind without necessarily being evil? Khaleesi knew little of their ways, did vampires have to kill their prey like wolves did? That might make them more likely to be evil, but if it was the only way to survive, if it wasn’t a choice, then what? She was confused about what to think, but for now she kept an open mind.
