When solid ground grows soft with emerald moss and rivulets of black mud, and coffee-colored water pours slowly around the trunks of densely carpeted trees, this marks the beginning of Laod Mor: the swamp of Blossom Forest. Time itself seems to slow to a soporific crawl . . . the humid jungle air grows stagnant, thick with the scent of rich flooded earth and an abundance of green things that can be found nowhere elseóexcept perhaps Caidir Olc. In some areas of the swamp, water rises so high the only way to cross it is to crawl across fallen logs or massive roots arching from their liquid beds; in other places a wolf might wade easily through the mireóor find a fortunate stretch of mostly dry earth. Pieces of the great river, Glaesfaet Sceawere, also slice through from time to time: small falls that feed into surprisingly clear pools, only to terminate into tar-like pits. Of course, Laod Morís beauty shines brightest at night. Here, fireflies gather at all times of the year . . . suffusing the shadowy place with millions of twinkling lights.

Those looking to hunt here of course find a myriad of water prey, including caiman, turtles, fish, crayfish, otters, and toads.

Bring Me to Life (Holly)

Only You Are the Life Among the Dead

Winter snuck up quickly on the female as she found herself wandering through the trees once more. There was a cold wind in the air, but it didnít bother her as her winter coat had come in thick and dense already. Khaleesi had been born in a land with harsh winters, and had inherited the sturdy coat of the Arctic wolves. The cold didnít bother her, and she hoped that the rest within her pack were fairing well as the weather changed once more. As she wandered throughout the trees, she noticed how different everything was. The trees were mostly bare, there leaves fallen off a while ago and left behind the skeletal branches. The brush was far less around her, many of the plants died in the cold chill and frost. But she knew that everything would come back with time. And the healer had prepared for this, making sure her stocks of healing herbs were well filled just in case. Now that Khaleesi had no herbs to hunt for, she had no agenda and just enjoyed wandering through the trees.

As her form explored lands that were still becoming familiar to her, her thoughts wandered to one varg she had recently met. Odin. The male had stumbled upon her when she had been checking out the herb stocks around a river, and he had asked for her help. It pained her when she had to admit that there was no way she knew of to help him. His kind were still knew to her. Khaleesi was still surprised that vampires and tempests and magic was real. But it was also exciting. Odin had explained how he didnít want to be what he was, and how hungry he was. But then he had run off. Khaleesi had thought about following him, but it was not her place. She had taken an instant liking to him and wished she could help. But she had no way to. All she could do was hope that he had found peace with what he was. Besides, it was not his fault. Despite the negative stigma about vampires, Khaleesi could not believe that one species could be wholly evil. He could still be good.

Khaleesi paused her stride, realizing that she had wandered outside of the pack and back to where she had met Odin. Maybe he had more of an impact on her than she thought if she found herself back near the river. She realized how long she had been walking when she saw that it was night, and she thought about heading back home. But something had drawn her out here, and she had always been one to follow her instincts. She padded towards the water, reaching down to lap at the cold waters where there was no ice covering it, lost in her own thoughts.
