At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

Only You Are the Life Among the Dead

Winter snuck up quickly on the female as she found herself wandering through the trees once more. There was a cold wind in the air, but it didn’t bother her as her winter coat had come in thick and dense already. Khaleesi had been born in a land with harsh winters, and had inherited the sturdy coat of the Arctic wolves. The cold didn’t bother her, and she hoped that the rest within her pack were fairing well as the weather changed once more. As she wandered throughout the trees, she noticed how different everything was. The trees were mostly bare, there leaves fallen off a while ago and left behind the skeletal branches. The brush was far less around her, many of the plants died in the cold chill and frost. But she knew that everything would come back with time. And the healer had prepared for this, making sure her stocks of healing herbs were well filled just in case. Now that Khaleesi had no herbs to hunt for, she had no agenda and just enjoyed wandering through the trees.

As her form explored lands that were still becoming familiar to her, her thoughts wandered to one varg she had recently met. Odin. The male had stumbled upon her when she had been checking out the herb stocks around a river, and he had asked for her help. It pained her when she had to admit that there was no way she knew of to help him. His kind were still knew to her. Khaleesi was still surprised that vampires and tempests and magic was real. But it was also exciting. Odin had explained how he didn’t want to be what he was, and how hungry he was. But then he had run off. Khaleesi had thought about following him, but it was not her place. She had taken an instant liking to him and wished she could help. But she had no way to. All she could do was hope that he had found peace with what he was. Besides, it was not his fault. Despite the negative stigma about vampires, Khaleesi could not believe that one species could be wholly evil. He could still be good.

Khaleesi paused her stride, realizing that she had wandered outside of the pack and back to where she had met Odin. Maybe he had more of an impact on her than she thought if she found herself back near the river. She realized how long she had been walking when she saw that it was night, and she thought about heading back home. But something had drawn her out here, and she had always been one to follow her instincts. She padded towards the water, reaching down to lap at the cold waters where there was no ice covering it, lost in her own thoughts.
