a vexatious kiss

Behind smoky painted eyes, a picture of revulsion and contortion blurrily played over and over. Screams ripped through her ears and her skull filled with confusion, fear, and agony. There in front of luminous crimson orbs laid the bodice of Drvaen’s Mesmer. And though it was known that she was used for this purpose by Draven and whatever vampire he allowed to feed, it did not change the feeling of utter horror that gripped her chest. Right now. And as it had in the moment. Diosa begged her lids to release and open her eyes back to the world as she knew it. She was to see the deciduous trees of her homeland, the boggy depths that could so easily take away life, and most of all her family. Even if most of them accepted the vampric need that they had, she knew that she could not live out in the world of the normal. She couldn’t be among the living. She was the undead. She fed on the living. How was she expected to live among them? She had begun to realize just how important it was that her mother kept Caidir Olc for those like them. Even if they weren’t all vampires, those that lived in Caidir Olc were so dark and twisted, whether by nature’s creation or by their own volition, that they could all live in peace together. Those not like them did not belong for good reason.

Crows screeched overhead, their black figures gliding seamlessly against the midnight sky.

Diosa’s eyes snapped open, releasing her from the hellish nightmare in her mind. Crimson lanterns turned up and watched the harbingers of death, she had grown fond of them. As she padded back towards the border of her home, they usually greeted her. Today though, their screeches were directed towards mother, and Diosa paused to see how they moved. Diosa turned and headed in the direction that they flew, knowing that her mother would not be far behind them. Death followed its harbinger. Who had stumbled upon their borders? Was their intention to be here or not? This would be the determinant of their life. Mother had to deem them worthy of entrance to the pack. Were they dark and twisted? Were they a warrior gone rogue? Or was a vampire seeking shelter? Diosa did not know if there were free roaming vampires in Blossom Forest, but she would not have been surprised. With Draven’s habits there would be no surprise. Diosa shuddered at the thought of Draven, how dark and twisted he truly was. There was no telling what he was capable of, but this was one of the few times that Diosa was glad to be a vampire. She would never be on the receiving end of Draven’s bite, or at least she hoped.

Diosa loped quietly along the border of Caidir Olc, her nares finally catching the scent of the new stranger. A by this fact alone she knew that whoever they were was a mortal and though a brute, would stand no chance against either of Lucaya or her, if they were to break skin with their fangs. Diosa slowed to a swaying walk, as she approached the scene. The dark figure of her mother stood proudly before the mortal boy, her voice cooed gently into the night air before she released the venomous, biting tone that truly indicated her intentions. Mother’s fang flashed beneath her lips in a beautiful, deadly smile. Diosa had no doubt that her mother would have spotted her, but as she padded silently up behind the boy, knowing he could not scent her. And I’m Diosa, daughter of Lucaya, heiress to Caidir Olc. She flashed a small but revealing smile, I wouldn’t play games, mother doesn’t appreciate it. Unless maybe you’d give chase, a little fun never hurts anyone. Except maybe you. A cold giggle, released from her lips. Happy to be home, among company she knew she could trust. There were times like these were she could feel herself allowing there to be a harmony between her vampric needs and mortal soul, because it was not her hunger that drove her. This was the cold, caustic side, the side that kept her alive among such deadly company. One had to be just as deadly in words as bite here.
