I noticed on Kempenfelt Bay today that amongst the gulls were large flocks Buffleheads some distance from shore. Without binoculars the birds appeared white if males predominated, or grey if females were numerous. In flight, the birds presented as fleet whitish forms with flashes of black. I wonder if these ducks might be Ethel's mystery birds.
