Evren’s heart lifts briefly at the mention of her father, as if he is simply a long lost loved one she hasn’t heard from in a while. She has to remind herself all over again that he no longer walks in the realm of the living - something she still has to do every morning of every new day.
A slight frown creases her face as Evren takes in the information the strange mare offers her. Evren is not a suspicious creature, but she is caught off guard by the situation she suddenly finds herself in, and it takes her a moment to decide how to handle it. Her warm honey eyes roam the older mare’s face while she imagines what Orhan would have done. The stallion had always been careful and tactful; if he was in the position where he had to break bad news to someone, he would probably have eased them in gently, maybe led them to the oasis first so that they could enjoy the comfort of shade and water.
But Evren is not her father and, while she would do anything to bring him back, she does not have the patience he had. So she decides to break the news there and then.
“My father is dead, as is my brother Koray. I’m sorry, Scylla. I’m sorry you came all this way.” She offers the mare a rueful expression. “You are still welcome here, if you need some time.”
