Trees are a very important part of a healthy environment and are essential in preventing erosion and keeping the water clean plus working together with fungi which results in a healthy ecosystem. In here Simcoe County we are getting away from the importance of planting trees as we once did. MNRF have undergone big cuts and the County now views the Simcoe County Forests as a resource for harvesting trees and development, not for establishing healthy ecosystems, homes for many species like endangered salamanders and bats plus wildlife corridor for the movement of wildlife. Development in Simcoe County has fragmented the forests opening them up to invasive species and making them less effective. We now have to plant more new native tree and shrub species to bring back these forests and need locations like the Ontario Tree Seed Plant in Angus and not relay totally on private businesses to provide this stock.
