The Grotto

Disaster has struck!
Years ago, an earthquake broke open several entrances into a deep, winding series of subterranean systems. It was thought that deep below, underground rivers snaked their way below Moladion. Now, flooding in the Northern reaches of Moladion has proven this theory to be true.

The Grotto is almost entirely submerged. Many of the entrances are completely inaccessible, and those that are only extend a few hundred feet before ending in water. The lower entrances, however, act almost like a giant drain for Moladion. Water pours down into the Grotto's maw as powerful rapids and waterfalls, and large amounts of debris have build up throughout the area. It can be exceptionally dangerous to travel due to the risk of flash-flooding and dams suddenly breaking, but the Grotto does offer the most consistent access across the floodwaters because of those dams.

Note:The Grotto will return to normal once 25 posts have been completed (or at Staff discretion). During this time, new threads will receive a 'Surprise','Disaster', and prizes.

From what he'd seen of this land called Moladion, it was a vast and varied landscape. Not so unlike the land he'd come from if a bit less harsh as a whole. Sure, there seemed to be a few less than forgiving corners of the land but as a whole it seemed to be somehow softer than what he was used to. Not that the ground was soggy or any such nonsense but the bits of land not claimed by a pack were vastly less hostile and filled with strife.

He wasn't sure he liked it.

Turning from the fields of autumn grasses, letting the impending winter winds nip at his heels, Dirk almost sighed as the softer terrain gave way to the rough stone, crags hewn by wind and rain and long gone waters. This was more to his liking, more suitable to his state of mind. Here, he would be subject to all manner of weather as the winds would pull at his pelt. Yes, this landscape was far more suitable to his inner turmoil than the faded beauty of the fields or the softness of the forest.

Hours were spent exploring the carious stone structures as Dirk worked his way south east. There wasn't much in the way of prey but the foreign male managed a decent snack of small rock dwelling critters. Eventually his wanderings led him toward the scent of dampness. He certainly wouldn't object to a quick drink before he found a place to bed down. He still wasn't sure if he would remain in Moladion but for now he would linger as it was better than where he'd come from; fewer memories though nothing could completely exorcise the past that haunted him.

Following his nose, Dirk found the source of the damp smell, a series of caverns that must lead to some underground water source. Skidding down an stony decline, managing to keep his balance amidst the falling rocks, he paused at the entrance and let his eyes adjust to the darkened interior. It wasn't a terrible place, damp and smelling of earth. Deciding that his explorations weren't quite finished for the day, he stepped into the caverns, sighing as the dampness draped over him with a cool embrace.

After a time, however, he noticed that the scent of earth and water was laced with the scent of wolf. Had he stumbled upon someone's hidey hole? So far as he knew, he was still on unclaimed land, but perhaps he would be wise to be careful. Tis a likely place to bed down, no surprise that another would think so as well.

Well the place was more than large enough to accommodate more than one wolf comfortably providing that the other wolf wasn't the possessive sort. Shaking himself out, Dirk snorted then put his nose to the ground, intending to sniff out the other explorer and hash out sleeping arrangements sooner rather than later. He wasn't about to try and find a new space in the dead of night in a strange land. The moon had a tendency to play tricks on the eyes.
