yes all men must die,
but we are not men.

It wasn’t what she had expected. Despite spending her puppyhood dreaming of the day she would sit where her mother and her mother’s mother had sat atop the great mountains of Moladion, of calling herself the queen of Spirane this was not how she had imagined it happening. Her mother had been severely injured to the point she felt incapable of protecting the wolves who called this pack home any longer, and hard as it was to deal with these things happened. It is why an heir had been chosen, why Daenerys had trained Nymeria in expectations that when the time came she would be able to step up and lead. Yet now that it had come to pass her younger sister felt called to tend to their mother which led all eyes to turn to the dark grey girl.

The early morning light was just peaking over the horizon as its first rays washed upon her where she sat atop one of the highest peaks Spirane had to offer. It was a secret place, a special place that Daenerys had showed her children when they were old enough. It is where she had learned who her father was and what he had done. It is here that she always returned to when she needed quiet and a place to think. It boasted the best views of all Moladion sprawling out from the base of the mountains, but even as her moon-rimmed eyes danced over the landscape she did not see it. This morning her mind was too full of churning thoughts that sent butterflies dancing in her stomach as well. Today she took on the mantle of Alphess, something she had given up on long ago as a child’s dream. She had grown so much since the times she strutted around the mountains proclaiming herself a princess and ordering her brother’s around, and yet she wondered if she had grown enough to lead them all.

Her breath hung heavy in the cool morning air as she sighed, autumn was fast approaching which meant the lean months were not far off and she would need to meet with her aunt Haven to discuss their winter stores. Along that train of thought she realized she should set up a meeting with Baird and Arthfael to discuss the guard and pack defenses should they be necessary. Oh and with Vortigern as well she assumed, he was close with Nymeria and she hoped he would take kindly to her stepping into alpha-ship in her sisters place and agree to stay on as head diplomat. She had spoken with her mother at length about the importance of allies to their pack not long ago and it was something that needed to be looked into now with how much the packs had changed of late. She sighed once more, there was so much to be done and she still questioned if she as the right wolfess for the job, but for her mother’s sake and for Spirane’s sake she knew she had to be.

Squaring her shoulders she took one last look at the world below which was slowly being bathed in the morning light before turning and heading back down the mountain. Her steps were quick and sure and her face set with determination as she traversed the often treacherous mountain paths which were as familiar as the back of her own paws. She headed directly to the seat of the alpha where the leader of Spirane had hosted gatherings of the pack since Moladion had been remade with the great meteor. Her delicate head looked up at it with determination etched on her fine features, as if silently challenging it to say she was not good enough. After only a moment she approached, leaping up atop the stone that jutted out into the clearing.

Circling around once she perched herself on the lip of the rock, adjusting her shoulders she wrapped her long, thick tail around her paws as she had always been wont to do. Pleased with everything being just so she tipped back her dark, slender muzzle and howled a long crystal clear note that climbed into the morning sky and resonated over the dark pines and open fields of the mountains. She called to the pack, to her pack, to anyone and everyone who would choose to call this place home and rest beneath her protection. She called to them no longer a spoiled princess who thought she deserved everything simply by title along but as Kalseru Mountainborne, daughter of Daenerys, protector of the mountains and Bewilderbeast of Spirane.
