Rowena doesn't know how her chest can feel so empty and yet so heavy at the same time. She is struggling to breathe, struggling to live with everything that's happened, and with some things that haven't happened. Her default expression rests somewhere between lost and mournful, but even a few kind words from Macabre can draw out the hint of a smile. It's in moments like these that Rowena is reminded why she loves Macabre so much. Far greater than any resentment or jealousy is the comfort and reassurance offered in the darkest of times.

Rowena returns a shadow of a smile in response to Macabre's appreciative words. "Thank you for letting me come with you. I don't know where I'd be without you, Macabre." Rowena steps casually closer to Macabre, and she too rips a mouthful of wilted grass from the roots. For the first time in days, Rowena eats.

Silence doesn't settle long before Macabre speaks Rowena's thoughts aloud. The black mare lifts her head and pauses mid-chew. Surprised eyes find Macabre's. Ailill is another thing the two mares have in common. They don't speak of him much, so Rowena almost forgot the connection. She swallows what's in her mouth and wonders, "I don't know..." She pauses, hesitating. Rowena has never gossiped about boys with anyone, and she never confessed her feelings about Ailill to anyone either. These feelings are deeply personal to her. Part of her is embarrassed to have them. She ultimately didn't know Ailill very long. She can't explain how she fell so hard, and after all this time she can't explain why she still feels the same way. Rowena really loved Ailill and her heart still aches for him. "I think about him a lot. I wonder what he's up to.. if he still thinks about me..." Her voice trails off, cracking with emotion. For the second time, Rowena smiles. This time it reaches her eyes. "Yeah, we should go. I'd like that."

It is then that Jetta appears. As she rushes forward to embrace Macabre, Rowena steps back to give them space. She lingers in silence, watching their reunion. A new jealousy blossoms in the pit of her stomach, and she feels the strong urge to chase Jetta away, but self control keeps her rooted to the spot with a neutral expression. These are feelings Rowena never had before. The loneliness and feelings of uselessness have gotten to her, and perhaps she has a bit of her father in her too. In her stress, she has become not just forlorn, but also irritable and possessive. Her emotions surge in uneasy tides, with violent and sudden turns. Thus far she hasn't acted on anything, but inside she fights a losing battle.
