The winter had proven to be as expected; she was glad she had planned well ahead for she had to admit, it was rather disheartening to see one's fur fail to grow its usual luxurious winter oomph. In any case, it was a good final winter, she thought. Pleasant, the days short but clear with no storms to obstruct her view of the stars. She had taken much to start watching in her evenings - sometimes, she'd see Pan and Faol'an arguing in the twilight and when the moon rose, she'd see her children chasing one another in its silver glow. They'd call for her sometimes and she'd hold her breath and feel the steady rythm of her own heart but then she'd think of her other children - those here - and give the others a weak smile. Not tonight, not today. She had other things to do yet.

Come the morning, she had made sure to do just that. Though her mornings were much slower, she had taken the time to dig for several vole she had stashed away in the fall; with them in her mouth, she made her way towards where her son, Baird, often spent his own days. Deep down, she hoped Nivi would be there. The moment Niviaq had seen her son's children, she could tell his daughter was of her own blood. Perhaps it was simply instinct but when the girl had opened her eyes, Niviaq had seen Baird watching out at her. It warmed her heart - perhaps she had always had a small bias towards daughters.

She moved just off course and towards a large gathering of pine that sheltered the ground beneath from the snow; though it had been peppered with white, brown grass and stones still jutted from beneath. Here, she settled into place and let out a call for her son and granddaughter, having placed the voles before her in a sort of...breakfast array: Baird to the left in front of her and Nivi to the right.
