Now My Watch Begins; It Shall Not End Until My Death

Ghost may have been gone from Blossom for some time, but everything was about to get much more interesting. More so than any time he had previously spent within these lands. He was not expecting much when he came back, and he found himself expecting pups with a random female now. When he thought of having pups of his own he had told himself that it would be with someone he loved, a mate. But instead it was with a female in distress, and he had just wanted to help her. And now he knew she was due to whelp any day now, something he had not expected to have to deal with. Motionless had told him about her past, about what she was fleeing from and he was surprised at how undisturbed he was by her words. It didn’t seem that unbelievable that some wolves turned out to be vampires, and it seemed that a pack of them had driven the female out of her pack, out of her role as an alphess. All the male had wanted was to offer comfort, offer a way to distract her from her pain. He had never thought that pups would come of it. And yet a few weeks later she had found him again and told her what she knew. And now he knew she was due any time. But he could not find her now, had no idea where she had wandered off to. He didn’t want to be like his mother and abandon them, he needed to be there for them. To raise them properly. But he needed to find Motionless first.

In the brute’s search for the female he had come upon a gruesome scene. A varg, who was clearly one of these vampires that Motionless had spoken of, feeding and another that seemed to be dying. Ghost was not sure what had possessed him to go closer, to investigate and offer his help when he saw the blonde male struggling to carry the other brute. But he had done so, padding forward to offer his assistance. The vampire who he found to be called Thackery was willing to accept his help, and the pair set out to the dying vargs mother. When he said they were going to Caidir Olc, memories of what Motionless had told him about that pack, and the new leader that held it, overcame him. And he knew it would be dangerous to go there, but he agreed anyways. He wasn’t sure why he thought he would be safe, but he wasn’t too worried, when really he should have been. No matter how good a fighter he may be, he knew that it would be different with vampires. Especially when he was going to their territory. The pair set off, dragging the body of a now dead wolf between them. It was exhausting work, but Ghost pushed on, his muscles straining at the exertion at the distance that they were traveling, but he didn’t utter a single complaint, not wanting to look weak in front of the other brute. At one point Thackery had dropped the other wolf for a moment, the corpse’s head hitting the ground with a sickening thud that made Ghost flinch away. “Oops. Won’t do that again . . .” Crimson orbs looked to his companion, seeing the grin on Thackery’s face and turning away before they began to move on once more.

After what felt like an eternity, the pair made it to their destination. The border of the pack. It was weird that there was no strong scent of an alpha here, but there was still a feeling of a border. It was just as strong as if there was an actual scent, even though the vampires had none. It was just one of the unsettling aspects of them, something that should scare Ghost away. But he still felt no fear, no worry about where he was, or what being was standing right next to him. Audette’s flickered when Thackery spoke once more, “Thanks for helping me carry him this far. If you want to beat it, I understand. I’m sure Mama Leech isn’t going to be pleased to see her idiot son starved himself to death.” He turned to look at the handsome male once more, a part of him telling him to heed his advice and leave now. But his paws remained rooted to the spot. ”I’ll remain until she comes to take him.” He wasn’t sure why, there was no explanation that made sense, but he felt like he needed to stay here. He was sure that Lucyne would not be happy about it, but it was not Thackery’s fault so she could not blame him. The vampire lifted his muzzle to the sky and alerted the pack to his presence. They were not alone for long before another vampire joined them, this one a male as well. Were there any normal wolves residing within this pack? Or was it truly filled with only creatures of the night? This brute held a different nature to him, one that dripped pure evil. Ghost’s fur stood on end as he drew closer. He didn’t feel uncomfortable standing near Thackery, but this stranger made his insides turn. There was something truly bad about him, and Ghost remained on high alert. As he listened to him speak to Thackery, the snow white male knew that his instincts were correct. This male clearly relished in the pain of others.

When the stranger addressed him, not introducing himself but stating his rank, his own crimson gaze met his unnaturally bright red ones. Would he really seek him out if he tried to run? Was his life really that important to this vampire? Forcing his form not to snarl out at this male, he finally stated his name, respecting the fact that he was a beta even if he did not like the presence of this male. ”Ghost.” It was then that the queen of the lands appeared. She too had the same bright red orbs as the other two vampires. She didn’t notice her dead son immediately, and began to address Thackery. But when she did see the corpse between their paws, she was clearly enraged. He didn’t blame her, a mother losing her kin was not something that could be taken easily. But when she lashed out at Thackery, as if he had been the one to blame for he son’s death, Ghost was surprised. If he had really killed the teen, why would he have brought his body here? She must not be thinking clearly. When she spoke of letting Draven torture and do what he pleased with the two of them, he finally let his own emotion show. A snarl escaped his kissers, showing them that he did not fear her or her words. Even though he had no quarrel with these wolves, and no loyalties to Thackery, he heard himself speaking up. ”Thackery did nothing wrong. All he did was return your son to you.” A part of him wanted to say more, to tell Lucyne that she was stupid if she thought Thackery had a part in her son’s death. But he was on her land, and even if he didn’t like her, needed to show her some form of respect. His crimson orbs kept the two vampires in his site, carefully watching in case Draven was ordered to attack them, or if the alphess lashed out again.
