what did you see in me?
Clever, perhaps, was not a word that could be used to describe the boy, still stuck in puphood socially as he seemed to be. He was not daft, though, his eyes shone with goodwill but also a keen intelligence. He could not catch on to the schemes of this other male but it was not through much fault of his own, there was no reason for him not to believe that everybody was out to do good. The world was bigger, and badder than he could have ever expected. An example had fallen right into his lap, after all.
"Oh! Well, perhaps not an adventurer, although it was a long journey home. I survived by myself for a long time, though, since I was very young." Ash was glowing from the praise, though he had to wonder what Enderly considered a fool. He hadn't met any fools, he didn't think. Then again he hadn't met many others so who was he to say? He liked Enderly, for sure, he knew that. The older male was nice and very smart. His tail wagged softly and he returned Enderly's smile, not noticing or perhaps not assuming anything subversive about the slyness that lurked beneath. There was no reason for him to suspect anything and therefore it was swept quickly underneath the proverbial rug.
He gave the other a shy smile when the question was asked. "Yes, yes I do!" Ash gave an emphatic nod. "You would have made a fine king, you're very eloquent. That's a good quality for a king, I think." His eyes gleamed as he looked at the male, handsome and put-together even in his older age. His father was like that, too. Still going after all this time and Ash was glad for it. He tilted his head slightly as Enderly continued to speak, this time of Glorall and his grandchilden that resided there. His story was so tragic. Ash could never imagine keeping his father from his pups should he ever have them. His face, ever expressive, showed his disbelief at what Enderly said.
"Well... well that's just... wrong!" He exclaimed sourly, tail lashing much like an irritated cat's. "Maybe... maybe if your son won't listen to you, he will listen to me? I can try and show him that he's making a bad decision." Ash said with a small frown, his brow creasing. Enderly was so nice, he couldn't see why this son of his would keep the pups from their grandfather! It was truly awful. "Oh! Or maybe I could find the pups and convince them to come with me, and then bring them back home! I'm sure once they meet you they'll want to come visit again." He said his last statement with a gleaming smile. Yes, he would help, it was only fair. And besides, he had never seen the rest of Moladion. If nothing else it would make for a nice trip.
