All of her thought processes seemed to shut down. Her thoughts and emotions flew apart. The only things in her life were being torn from her paws in the matter of moments. She did the only thing she knew for certain. Forced to leave Whisper behind, Pine raced to collect the rest of her family before Blackthorne could change his mind.
For the first time, Cenna’s usual calm nature did nothing to ease her chaos. Instead, the depth of their anguish for their children spiralled off each other. Still of one mind, she did all she could to impress upon Cenna the gravity of the situation while still trying to abide by time. Whisper is in trouble. But we need help, and we need to leave. Together, they ushered the remainder of their children to a place they both knew they could go.
On the borders of Taviora, Pine slowed her relentless run to finally try to stop and think through what had happened. All at once she had lost her daughter and her home. Her teeth bared in instant hate towards the dark thorn. One way or another, she vowed to herself, he would pay for this. Looking into each of her childrens’ face, at last she looked up at her love and soul. The instant she looked into his fathomless eyes she could feel herself crumble under his gaze. She had failed him. She had failed them. All of them. Her love, her family, her pack. She had believed she could be strong, only to have it crumble all away. Fighting against the feeling of being broken, she gritted her teeth and looked back at her lover’s face.
I’m sorry, Cenna. Whisper had been tricked away. By the time I got there they were threatening to kill her. Pine’s little body shivered. I did the only thing I could. She was sure if she had called for the rest of the pack, jaws would have closed on the pup’s throat. Whisper’s fate had not been sealed, but still all the mother could imagine was her daughter’s blood flowing. We need some help. We need to get her back. She looked through the trees of Taviora, knowing the forest Goddess would help them, or at least give them a place to rest. The little wolfess did not know if she had it in her to call for Zelda, but felt the Alphess would know of their presence sooner or later regardless.
