Dealing with cartilage damage

Anyone here successfully dealt with cartilage damage in the knee?

I've had my knee scoped twice to deal with scar tissue and cartilage damage. The doctor is one of the best in the area and works with a lot of pro athletes and said there really isn't more to do and I'm going to be limited with movements I can perform in the gym. He did suggest PRP and stem cell treatments but they aren't covered under insurance and a lot of people I know who have done PRP for their knees said its kinda hit or miss and it isn't going to magically produce more cartilage for me.

I've already had it drained a couple times since the last surgery because squatting really fucks with it.

Anyone have any tips or am I fucked?
