Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

Nothing.

I don't know why I had expected her to answer. Maude had been gone for almost two whole seasons, the odds of her lingering just inside a new land were very slim. She'd always been curious and eager as a pup...before reality and little jerks had made her close to the world. I'm not sure why it took me so long to see, maybe it was just the absence of her skulking presence that made me realize how truly miserable my little sister had been.

Sighing, I looked around, right and then left, trying to decide which way to go. Somehow, between the span of turning my head from the right to might left, however, someone appeared. Blinking, hackles rising partially, I tensed as that someone spoke. It was a female, surprisingly about the same size as I was. If I didn't know any better I might have taken her for a cousin; I knew better.

Taking in the female's rich coloring and bright yellow eyes, I slowly relaxed and a smile curled on my lips. She wasn't hard on the eyes, that was for sure. A little spooky, popping up out of nowhere but definitely nice to look at. Unable to stop it, like a switch was flipped inside me, I stuck out my chest a bit. "And you answered. This is a very accommodating land, what is it called?"

Not one of my best lines but I was still a bit sore and the worry for Maude kept gnawing at the back of my mind. Maybe I should've tired of mother's nagging sooner and gone to find Maude before winter had set in. Nothing I could do about it now though. Nothing but hope she wasn't dead in a snowbank somewhere. I'd never hear then end of it if something had happened to her.
