Jai Alai Player Metrics Posted on January 9, 2018 at 11:48:50 PM by alq
We all know that sophisticated individual player metrics are a critical component of all
major professional sports today.Think baseball golf,basketball,tennis,etc.,etc.Even other
parimutuels like the dogs and the horses are loaded with data.Jai alai,of course,is in the
dark ages.We can't even get accurate data on the basics like #games played, wins, places and shows.
They don't even split the data between singles and doubles which is absolutely critical to do.
Obviously, we will never get better data because of the financial state of the business today.
However, that is not my purpose in this thread.
I want you to dream for a minute and assume that individual player data is available for every
point played and separated between singles and doubles. For every point played we know which
player was involved and how the point was determined either with a winner (and who threw it)
or an unforced error (and who committed it). Here is my question:what would you do with this data
and what are the most important metrics you would use to determine who the best players are and why?? Replies:
