A pounding heartbeat was all the sweet fae could hear as her mother continued to tell her about the ceremony that was going to happen the coming night. The brute that had been forcing himself upon her since she was a mer pup was going to be given all the rights in the world to abuse her whenever he saw fit and now it would be justified. All he had to say was he was her mate and she went against his alpha position. In their country alpha’s were considered kings and yet her parents were given a female pup. She was the only pup in their litter to survive and her mother wasn’t able to carry another litter to term. Evangelism was all her mother had. Every day she was shown how much that actually meant. Which was nothing. They let her mate abuse her, take advantage of her. Evangelism didn’t even know who she was to be anymore. She shied away from others when they got near her. She refused to speak to other males because her mate would kill her if he even caught another males scent on her petite body. She hated him though, she wanted to run and get away. Her only safe place was her head where he couldn’t get to her. She often dreamed of a far off place hoping there would be a soulmate waiting for her.

Soulmates were considered a fantasy to her people, even her mother scoffed at it, but Eva had hope that someone was destined for her. Not this brute that just abused her and took advantage of her whenever he seemed fit. She didn’t want to be a toy to anyone or just another possession, she wanted to for once in her life feel loved. Tears were beginning to well up in her eyes and she heard her mother laugh. Her head snapped towards the hanis haggard and blinked. “What is funny mother?” she questioned and shook away the tears. “What is funny is that you are so happy that the ceremony has been moved up that you’re in tears!” Eva stopped and blinked at her mother. She must not have been hearing her right. “What are you saying mother?” she gulped down the air that was fighting to leave her as well. “You are to be mated in just a few short minutes.” her mother stated with an as a matter of fact tone and Evangelism took another gulp of air. “Mother I’m going to go down to the stream to clean up.” she said softly and turned to leave the den.

She began to trot until her body made it to the stream. “If I go through with this I’ll end up killing myself. I have so much to live for, so much I want to do.” she sighed and looked down at the stream. Without thinking she jumped into it, knowing that it was deep in the middle she plopped right down into it and began to swim, letting it lead her away from her past, hoping it would take her towards a brighter future. She whimpered when it swept her into their massive river and the current became to strong for her to be able to fight with just kicking her legs back and forth.

Some would think she should have fought though, but her body was tired of fighting and the water was acting as an eraser of the things she didn’t want to remember. Like how it washed away all the release of the wolf who dominated her just hours before. He was to be her mate and yet he treated her like a slave. She knew if she stayed any longer that is all she would have ever accomplished. She relaxed into the current and let it take her farther and farther away from her home.

Her heart did however start to race as she watched the river meet the ocean, if she didn’t stay on this island, they would never find her. So instead of trying to swim away from the ocean, she swam towards it, the warm water of the river turning frigid as she tried with all her might to swim as hard and as fast as she could. Which was her mistake, the ocean was horrible and kept trying to engulf he, the small fae battled every hour, every day just to stay above the ocean’s depths, she wasn’t cut out for it and when her body slammed up against a cliffs edge she was about as dead as a salted snail. She managed to cling to the cliff and gently pull herself to the shore line where she clawed her way up the beach and onto the sand. Trying to get as far away from the ocean as possible. Her little body collapsing into a deep sleep right out in the middle of the Sandy area.

It was dark when she awoke and she didn’t know how long she had been sleeping, Her body was trembling in fear as she looked around for her mate, certain he would have found her and was ready to kill her. When she noticed still no one was round she pushed up onto her shaken legs and attempted to stand. A small shriek of joy rippled through her as she managed to stand on all four legs. They were still wobbling, but other than that she was able to start walking. Her nostrils full of salt water helping her to not smell anything around her. She finally found a cavern close to the water, but as she walked into it things became dryer and she knew it would keep her safe. She however blinked when she came up to a sleeping form, he was bleeding from his paws slightly and she whimpered before remembering she found some moss towards the entrance of the cavern and she turned, stalking back towards beginning, she gently grabbed some moss with her teeth and went back to the wolf who had been sleeping. Panic was ripping through her as she got closer to him. Would he attack her? She just wanted to help the beast it was bleeding and she couldn’t help but tremble, he was could clearly snapped her in half. Yet she still set the moss down and tucked her tail and pinned her ears back. “He...hello?” She said softly and hoped he wouldn’t attack when he awoke.
