She had heard him call. From the moment his voice had split the air she knew who it was that summoned her with such familiarity. For more than a moment she debated ignoring the call, after all how long had it been since she had seen any sign of her family… or even cared to. They had never meant much to her, coming in and out of her life at their leisure or trying to put her into some sort of box that they believe she ought to fit into. No, she had forged her own family on the very shores where the other had left her and she was better, stronger for it. Still curiosity called to her if only to see what her brother might look like today. She took a circumvented path so that she approached through some of the taller grasses downwind from him, crouching low her dark form was very well concealed as she peered through the edges of the field at him.
His plea reached her dark ears and yet she made no move to respond to him even in the limited capacity in which she was able. Let him feel the abandonment and isolation which she had been left to. Not that she regretted it, much like her muteness it was simply a part of who she was and it had made her stronger than before. Perhaps her brother could do with the same lesson, she thought, and so she merely continued to gaze at him, her piercing blue eyes concealed behind the waving grasses.
