Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

Summer well and truly had its grip upon the lands of Moladion. In the heart of the season, the temperatures reached their typical highs, and though the heat was nothing out of the ordinary for this time of year I found myself searching for relief. Typically that would send me higher up within the peaks of Spirane, the higher altitudes offering me a much needed break. Even though my winter coat shed out and left a nice, light summer coat, my heritage was still known for their hardy ability to withstand even the coldest temperatures of the mountain peaks and valleys. That meant that summer's heat was a little tougher to endure. Aside from that, I had been spending much and more of my time in the lower reaches of Spirane, making myself available to the pack as needed and tending to the duties of alphaship. Thus far, things were going well with Kalseru and I leading side by side, and the pack seemed to accept the change readily. It was mostly formality anyways, after all.

Crossing out of Spirane's boundaries - now marked clearly with my scent just as strong as Kalseru's - I jogged slowly towards the riverbank. My pace was even and leisurely, in no real rush and also not wishing to increase my body heat any more than was necessary. I did not break stride as I reached the river, finding an easy access to the water and jogging straight in. Water splashed up around me, sending a refreshing chill down my spine, until finally the water washed up over my back and I was swimming. A sigh escaped my lips, and I lapped at the water as I paddled lazy circles and figure eights while the slow current pulled me downstream bit by bit.

At one point I dipped entirely below the surface, allowing every inch of me to be soaked with the cool liquid before resurfacing once more and shaking my head. Water droplets flung in all directions from my ears and face. While I was enjoying the reprieve from the heat, I was sure to maintain awareness of my surroundings so as not to be surprised by another. Mahogany eyes rimmed in fiery orange casually scanned my environment, while my wet ears pivoted slowly atop my head. My dark tail floated atop the water, but after a while of floating along I decided to paddle towards the shallower waters near the northern bank so that I might gain my footing once more.
