Red-tailed hawk pair mating

I was putting some gas in the car at the Costco in Orillia this afternoon, and noticed a few crows harassing a large hawk sitting on top of a telephone pole -- I'm assuming by its size it was a Red-tailed. It flew away from the pests, landing in a large tree about half a kilometre away, and as I was driving past, I was startled to see it mount what I can only presume was a female Red-tailed Hawk. She seemed a willing recipient to the advance, and after a brief bit of balancing and wing flapping, he hopped to her side and straightened his feathers.
I have no idea if this corresponds with the known mating period of Red-tailed Hawks.
