I am the razor in the hands of your heart;
And I am the razor in the hands of God.
Evaline was angry and on edge, prancing in place because she could not stay still while she spoke the truth to Persephone, spitting back every terrible thing he had done to her back into Psychedelic's face. The rage in him was terrifying, however, keeping Evaline where she was instead of shooting forward to beat on him herself, as part of her wanted so desperately to do. But Shamwari was upon him out of no where, and what happened next Evaline could have never predicted.
It was as if time was moving at nearly a standstill. The golden mare felt a rush of confidence and contentment as she watched her son rise in the air, legs flailing, to attack her abuser. But in an instant, a flash of cream had wedged its way between them. Evaline's deep brown eyes widened at the realization: it was Talya. A tightness grasped at her throat and lungs, but like Persephone, Evaline was able to squeak out a sharp, "Talya!", just as the stallions' bodies were about to collide. Evaline felt a deep pang in her chest as she watched with anticipation and horror of what would become of her strange daughter, given her body lay limply at the base of the stallions' dueling legs and hooves.
Psychedelic saw the display but didn't stick around to see what had become of his child. Shamwari fired off after him, and Evaline was unsure if he had seen the filly at all. Evaline stood stiff in shock as Persephone, too, took off after Psychedelic with a rage she'd never seen before burning in her eyes. All of a sudden, the electric scene of anger and aggression had fled the parcel of this small valley, and it was just Evaline and her daughter, left in the quiet void.
Evaline was trembling with fear. If after all this, Talya was dead, she wasn't sure she could mentally handle it. Despite having abandoned her daughter so many months ago, there was a small maternal sliver inside Evaline still that felt warmth and contentment knowing her daughter was with someone like Persephone, where she was flourishing and cared for appropriately. After all the awful things that had transpired, Persephone had given Talya at a shot at happiness in this cruel world. Evaline didn't want to touch that, for fear of tainting it. But here they are. And Evaline may have ruined everything.
The palomino mare was too afraid to approach her daughter's body. She couldn't tell if she was breathing from her current vantage point. Instead, Evaline stood frozen, staring at Talya, willing her internally to get up and stare at her bankly with this big eyes, then prance off distracted by something else like she normally would. Before long, Persephone returned. Evaline watched as the roan mare walked in, taking careful steps as she moved to Talya with her nose close to the ground. Evaline took a step or two forward but froze again. She could hear her heartbeat in her ears. And there she waited, watching Persephone's movements frantically, waiting for a sign that would tell her one way, or another. "Oh God, please, let her live. Please, please, let her be alive."
