Barnacle Goose in Schomberg

A barnacle goose, is a casual or accidental visitor inland in the Great Lakes region being mainly observed along the northeastern seaboard of North America and a sea goose breeding in northeastern Greenland, Svalbard or Spitsbergen (Northern Norway), Baltic region and northeastern Siberia . One was reported in a large flock of Canada geese and a few crackling geese spending the nights at small ponds or lagoons beside the Tristan recreational centre in Schoenberg, Ontario near the intersection of highways 27 and 9 about five days ago. Today, I visited the site and was able to observe the bird closely associating with a few Canada geese. I had excellent views and even a few distance photographs of the bird but had to wait about an hour to see it well among all the Canada geese since it was sleeping while standing on the ice with its head under its wing.
