At Leisure Lake the sun is always shining and only a few stray clouds roam the open sky; paradise is the one word that really describes it. This beautiful lake is clean and refreshing, the very best place to swim and fish. Pups are known to play here while older wolves watch at the side, engaged in their own activities.

Glacial oceans had snapped open with lightening speed, heaving breaths causing his chest to expand and contract rapidly. It was borderline hyperventilation and there was blurred black lines rimming his vision because of it. The prince could hardly focus his vision in the present moment because of the recurrent image of Tiresias’ pierced body being tossed aside as if he weighed nothing. Castiel’s mouth opened to suck in air and relieve the pressure that was crowding his lungs from lack of oxygen. His lids blinked away the fuzzy edges as he tried to figure out where his friend had gone. He could feel the soft warmth in his chest, telling him that Tiresias was still very much alive. There would be no beaten, battered body to search for. The maned boy was merely sitting a few feet from Castiel, all he had had to do was to use his eyes, but his senses were clouded from his nightmare – leaving him incapable of realizing how close his companion was. Vocals had strained out of his throat and the flicker of a shadow at the mouth of their cave caught his attention. Castiel squinted trying to see into the light, but it was enough to see the haloed figure walk towards him. That familiar, elegant gait striding towards him told Cas exactly who it was.

For in these last few months, Cas had learned to spot small things that were characteristic of Tiresias.

From afar audettes picked up on familiarly blunt, yet concerned vocals, What was your nightmare about? The ashen prince folded his ears back in shame as his cheeks flushed with crimson heat, unsure of how to explain what exactly had been plaguing him in these last few weeks. How to tell Tiresias that he had watched him die the same way his previous lover had? The kind of connotation that that dream held was obvious to Cas and he had no doubt that Tiresias would eventually be able to pick up it as well. Cas had no reason for dreaming up potential scenarios of his friends death, there was no reason to be that concerned as a friend… but there inlaid the problem – what Castiel felt was more than friendly. And now all of those fears that he had managed to bury early on in their friendship were rising to the surface as his emotional ties deepened. And this scared Castiel half to death, because he did not want to lose Tiresias. Even at the expense of his own heart, Cas would have given anything to stay with Tiresias even if only as a friend because as far as he could tell Tiresias did not show any homosexual tendencies or inclinations.

A cool, gentle pressure at his shoulder brought the ashen hessian out of his thoughts. Luminous oceans swept over the kalak’s body, from the tip of his nose that was burrowed into his wintry coat to his tipped tail that swept across their den floor. His crown turned to touch nares with Tiresias so as to thank him and he could only hope that Tiresias did not notice that warmth in his face. The heat in his cheeks deepened as his eyes quickly flicked back to Tiresias’ emeralds, trying to ignore the thickening embarrassment at how obvious his emotions were. Though he was blind, Tiresias was quick to pick up on any sudden changes in Cas’ behavior. You have not had one in a while. I wonder what it is to have brought this one on… Aimless explanations buzzed around in his head and none seemed to cover up the truth the way he wanted to, but could he admit to it – the truth without revealing his feelings? I dreamt about a previous hunting accident I had been in… my partner that I was hunting with… Castiel choked on his words. The sudden overwhelming fear that clutched at his chest rendered him incapable of continuing. The ashen boy had not realized how truly terrified he was of losing Tiresias and he almost felt the compulsive need to spill the truth to relieve the pressure, but he feared his companions reaction more. The thought that he would drive Tiresias away made Cas reel in his emotions, My partner was killed in the hunt because I missed my mark and he tried to come check on me before the buck had cleared the scene. The words that fell from his mouth felt hollow and dry because they could hardly be called a white lie. There was so little truth remaining in them that Castiel could hardly convince himself that this is what had caused him to panic.

The only difference this time was that tonight I had dreamt it was you…

The words slipped from his lips, faintly but clear. Castiel shied away from Tiresias unsure of the reaction he was about to receive. He had just admitted the most crucial part to this whole mess his mind had created. Suddenly a piece of his dream clicked into place though, because before he had fallen into that nightmare he remembered the subtle, comforting presence that had been curled up with him. The limb that he had loosely draped in his dream had been draped over Tiresias in reality. Castiel cursed himself… there was no reason for them to sleep so close anymore, let alone for Castiel to drape himself around his companion. In the dead of winter it had been for a purpose because he was built to survive the winter, whereas Tiresias was pelted for the warm spring and hot summer months. They had shared body heat, mostly for Tiresias’ sake because Cas could shield him from the cool winds that would sweep through their home. And even though Autumn was upon them it was still too warm to warrant such closeness. And unlike usual, Tiresias had snuck away from Castiel before the sunrise. A frown tilted his lips downward, he wasn’t upset per say, but it pained the prince to think that he was causing discomfort to Tiresias. He just wanted the Tiresias to be happy, I don’t know why I dreamt that, it just scared me terribly Tiresias. Castiel’s head dropped and a pained sigh left his lips. Would these little white lies protect their friendship or would Tiresias see straight through him?
