'Cause every night I lie in bed the brightest colors fill my head...
In her ignorant bliss Eva does not know the judgement that may come with her, does not fathom the disability, for her she just is as she is and that is as it should be. All was right in the world as far as she would ever know and looking up into the dark copper eyes of a stranger who was not a stranger didn’t change that. Her short tail wags faster as she realizes the stilted words which she had spoken were actually understood by someone other than her siblings and parents, a skill she had been working on but that would obviously need to be continued. Her understanding of words mouthed was greater than her ability to respond to them, but even that was lacking with her young age. As the dark she-wolf responded Eva’s silvery eyes slipped from Ava’s copper once to pay more attention to the movement of her mouth, attempting to translate the movements into the words which they apparently formed despite her own ability to actually hear them.
For now she tries to catch at least a few of the words to try and guess at the entire meaning, it wasn’t fool proof but typically worked in the girls favor.
”Grah..mah.”
She worked the word around her mouth, feeling it for the first time as she put the meaning of it together, remembering her father’s mention of their having a grandmother in their family. Never did she doubt that this stranger was in fact her family, though perhaps someday she should learn to question if everything she is told is the truth.
Grahmah!”
She says it again with more excitement and confidence this time, stepping forward a little in her eagerness. Though she was almost too distracted to notice the next words her grandmother spoke, catching the word ‘thank’ and ‘flowers’ that she recognized. Her gaze dropping to the slew of flowers she had brought with her that now lay between them. Glancing back up she caught the gist of her grandmother’s question regarding them, looking back down to regard them as if flowers needed any more purpose than simply being pretty. Still she was eager to please her newfound grandmother and friend, as Eva had already decided she was though it was not a distinction that she would ever question regarding anyone.
To smehl… guhd?”
Looking back up to Ava she searched for some indication that it was the right answer, though not waiting too long for the confirmation before she decided to prove that it was so. Grasping a few of the stems between her small jaws once more the silvery girl dark girl stomped around to her grandmothers side, struggling for a moment before she managed to climb up onto her as she had often done to her mother, and straddle her back and shoulders. Once there she laid the flowers down, nosing through them as if this was the most serious of matters before selecting one , reaching forward, and working the stem into the long hairs of Ava’s scruff. Standing back she examined her work with a nod and a smile before selecting the next, eyeing the available space with which she had to work, and continuing the process until a few colorful buds dotted her dark grandmother’s coat. Sitting back between the older woman’s shoulder blades she looked entirely pleased with her work before looking back to catch her grandmother’s eyes for her approval.
”See?”
