You are interpreting those cultures incorrectly. Women in such cultures may be promiscuous but the males don't prefer it. The whole concept is about unknowingly raising another's offspring, not ensuring that someone else raise your offspring if something happens to you. Males in primitive cultures did not have much of a role in child-rearing and left that to the women. As a matter of logic, if you don't know if a child is yours, why would you care about it being provided for?

I did a quick look and "sperm competition" appears not to be an accepted view in biology but an outlier, and does not account for the high prevalence of sexual jealousy.
