Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

Return to Lunar Children
Tell me I'm wrong. [Lalli]
IP: 108.55.65.89

Dash had been halfway hoping that life would go back to usual once he was away from Citlalli and her obnoxious sister. Oh, and he’d tried so very hard to forget he’d ever met the girl and carry on with his life. Unfortunately, however hard he tried to excise the girl from his mind she would tenaciously reappear, just as stubbornly in his thoughts as she’d been in person. It was infuriating, really. The longer he tried to evict her from his thoughts, the more agitated he became, which only made finding food that much more difficult, particularly because he’d taken to muttering curses under his breath. So with his stomach empty and his ire up, he decided that perhaps now would be a good time to pay little Lalli a visit. He wasn’t sure when she’d gone from Citlalli to Lalli in his mind and he wasn’t particularly pleased but like so many things, it was beyond his control. Maybe if he caved and went to visit the girl, he’d get enough peace of mind to find himself something to eat.

A glance at the sky told him that it was every bit as dark and brooding as his thoughts. It was fitting really. Annoying and a little troublesome, but then so where his thoughts. Just as the two-toned young man turned toward the forest, the sky seemed to open up with a distant and ominous rumble. Spitting a curse, Dash broke into a trot, aiming for the tree line. With his body on autopilot, his mind wandered again, back to the day he’d met his little forest girl. She was obnoxiously self-righteous and her sister was a bothersome gnat but the thing that stuck in his mind was the feeling of absolute calm that has washed over him when she’d brushed up against his side. Dash hadn’t known peace since he’d been left on his own after the death of his last caretaker. He’d known only survival and hunger. Pain and fear. Always worrying about getting caught, too proud to beg. He wasn’t a good man, had no intention of ever being good or honorable. Yet somehow fate had deemed it wise to pair him with a woman who was everything he was not.

Growling under his breath as his thick fur quickly plastered to his borderline emaciated frame, Dash slipped into the woodlands and received only a slightly reprieve from the rain. It was falling so heavily now that even the full summer canopy did little to stop it. Shaking himself out, setting clumps of hair on end and making him look even more ridiculous than he had. Certainly this wasn’t out he’d wanted to meet Lalli again. At least the thickness of his winter coat had hidden how scrawny he was before. He’d shed his winter coat now and while his golden mane was a bit more impressive, being went and clumped together hardly did it any justice. Another displeased growl rumbled in his chest as he shook once more for good measure and trudged toward the Tavioran border, still questioning the sanity of this plan. He didn’t belong on packlands, doubted he ever would. In truth he’d probably stolen from a Tavioran or two in his short life but that draw was there, the lingering memory of absolute peace and stillness. He didn’t fully understand this bond or how it worked and he certainly didn’t think it was particularly advantageous but he also couldn’t avoid it. Like his ever present hunger it had wormed its way into his very being and there was no shaking it. He craved that connection every bit as much as he craved food.

Stopping on the edge of the border, Dash’s hesitance began to grow. Lalli had made it very clear that she was an honorable creature. Just and fair and always on the side of what was right. Dash lived in the grey underbelly of the world. It was a realm where more practical beings lived. It was a land where you did what you had to in order to survive without disrupting the lives of others too much. Dash didn’t know how to function in the light anymore than he knew how to function in the dark. He was a wish-washy shade of twilight that existed in limbo between good and evil. He tried not to take from anyone in the spring that might be feeding a nursing mother and he didn’t steal from the weak, injured or old. He had his own set of morals that didn’t align with the morals of someone wholly honorable and good. There was more wiggle room between good and evil that one might ever suspect. Dash didn’t know where he stood on that line. Was he closer to good or to evil? Where would Citlalli place him on that line? Why did it matter?

”Stop it! Just...stop it!” He could go around in circles all day about whether or not he was a good wolf. He knew he wasn’t anyone’s definition of good. He didn’t want to be. But the fact that the opinion of one particular wolf had him so tangled and knotted was a bit frustrating. He hadn’t cared what anyone thought of him until now. It wasn’t that he wanted to change, to be someone that Lalli would think kindly of. He honestly wasn’t quite sure what he wanted but to have her not be disgusted at the very thought of him would be a nice start. Insecurity was a constant friend to the orphan. Though he might not show it, he constantly questioned his own worth. Apparently his mother had thought he was worth half a deer. His elder caregivers as well. Self-worth was a joke because how did you even quantify your own worth without being a complete self-absorbed twat. Dash supposed that on the days he could find food and not go to bed hungry his was worth a great deal...at least to himself. To the person he stole from....and he was going down the rabbit hole again.

Heaving a sigh, Dash plodded forward. As usual he conserved his energy, his movement slow and deliberate. Pep was not something he could afford to put in his step. Energy was to be reserved for running from angry wolves that he’d stolen from or chasing a rabbit or other small animal to ground for a slightly fresher meal. Even if he’d had an endless reserve of energy, Dash wasn’t exactly the sort to go bouncing off to meet someone. Nose to the ground, Dash began to seek out the scent that had lingered in his nose since venturing to Spirane. It took him several sweeps back and forth as he worked his way further into Taviora before he caught her scent. Unbidden his white tail twitched, flicking water from the tip. Tracking in the rain wasn’t going to be easy but he’d given up on arguing with himself; he had to see her. Before long he long the scent trail and unable to pick it up again, let out a frustrated snarl and walked head first into a tree, pressing his crown against the trunk, ears folded back. ”If I call out some other idiot could come waltzing over. Damn rain!”

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
