Beating Alzheimer's Posted on 4/8/2018 at 13:35:47 by Bill Crawford, (14)
There was an interesting article entitled as above in the Parade magazine that came with today's paper (See below link).
Unfortunately, the last page of the article, entitled "Lower your Risk", was left out of the on-line version.
I've listed below the paragraph headings of that page:
-- Know your Numbers ( Cholesterol, blood pressure, BMI, etc, --Apparently mid-life high blood pressure is a dementia risk)
-- Take a cognitive Test (The SAGE test is the one recommended:
[See: http://dailycaring.com/15-minute-at-home-test-for-alzheimers- the-sage-test/
-- Hang on to your muscles
-- Maintain a healthy weight
-- Eat "green, lean and clean"
-- Go fishing (eat plenty of fish)
-- Pass on late night eating
-- Put devices to bed (stop texting, checking E-Mail, etc. at least 45 minutes prior to going to bed)
-- Balance stress with downtime
-- Keep busy and connected
-- Visit the dentist and eye doctor
-- Take up the ukulele ( learn to play a musical instrument)
-- Consider genetic testing
-- Join a clinical trial ("The first person cured of Alzheimer's will be in a clinical trial).
I took the SAGE test recommended above. The only thing that I couldn't remember the name of was a "funnel"--Mary quickly pointed out to me the correct name. (I know for a fact that she has a much better memory than me).
