a wolf will not break a wolf

Kasan's admiration for the small mare only grew when she introduced herself. He had met many queens in his short life, but the power of such women never ceased to amaze him.

Persephone's mention of his predecessor piqued the golden-hued stallion's interest. A hungry gleam entered his amber eyes, his thirst for knowledge driving him forward in the conversation. From her words, he managed to glean the name of the territory he had claimed for himself: the Ridge. A simple but fitting name. Part of him wondered exactly how much Persephone knew, and how much about herself she would be willing to reveal. So many questions danced on the tip of his tongue. How long had she called the islands home? How long had she ruled the Forest? Was there anyone else ruling with her?

"Nem," Kasan shook his head in response to her inquiry, "only a few weeks, maybe. I thought I had come here with my sister, but she is gone." A worried frown marred his features. Of course he missed his sister dearly, and would never stop searching for her. But right now, her whereabouts were untraceable. If she was on these islands, she was somewhere he had yet to step hoof. Inside his chest, a thread of hope blossomed. Maybe, just maybe, this mare had seen her. Some would say she was hard to miss, with her sleek curves, vibrant straw-colored coat and headstrong demeanor.

Pressing his lips together, Kasan glanced towards the looming mountain, trying to keep the questions from bursting forward from his chest. "What more can you tell me about these islands?" That was good enough for now.
