Re(2): This is actually an important aspect of jai-alai theory

From memory of way back when, attending lots of jai-alai, it seems that there was a lot of parking at 3 points. Of course, that was in the days of handicapped post positions, so stopping at 3 just happens to coincide with bumping into the 5-6-7 toughies.

Regardless, scoring exactly 3 is better win-wise than exactly 4. But scoring 4 with the next point an unknown is way better than stopping at 3.

However, that is just based on our familiar all-posts-equal model. In reality, stopping at 3 would also give you the chance to prevent any of the other low posts from winning before you return to the court. Only a 5-6-7-8 runout can beat you. So if you happened to believe in that 3-point tendency, you would be wise to inspect those posts and CYA accordingly. Eg: if you were only worried about the 6, then a 625 saver (assuming post 2 is your key) is all you need.
