aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

S E R A P H I N A

The cold of Vladimir’s nose against hers had Sera’s head turning to face his, emeralds gazing into his vibrant blues. Even without words, their love for each other was always obvious, always filled their gazes. Vlad reminded her that there was nothing to rush, that their pups needed names first because they were just as special as their first litter and Seraphina breathed out a laugh. “You’re right, of course. You know patience has never been my strong suit.” Indeed, she had a tendency to switch topics quicker than necessary, mostly to keep up with her shifting attention. The princess couldn’t think of a time when she’d been truly patient. Perhaps it would come with adulthood, which she was nearing. Since Qiturah, Asmund, and Ziva had been born, her temper had decreased significantly so maybe with this litter her impatience would decrease as well.

Seraphina’s turned back to the pups as Vladimir named them, whispering their names and nuzzling each in turn. “Maui…. Liora…. Ikuseghan…. Roan…” All wonderful names with wonderful meanings. Sera still marveled at the fact that she and Vladimir had created these tiny beings. The amazement that the first litter had brought had not decreased in the least, if anything it had magnified. Each and every one of them on the earth had been created by someone else - or rather two someones - and it was so odd to think of. It was all because of chance that any of them existed and looked the way they did. Different parents, even just a different arrangement of their actual parents’ genes and everything would have been different. These pups would be different than their older siblings and from each other even though Vladimir and Seraphina were the same as they had ever been. How wonderful it was that they had come into being. It had been only a few hours since they’d entered the world and already Sera could not imagine life without them. For things so small, they worked their way into her heart so strongly and there they would stay as long as she lived.

“Now as for this wedding, I want it to be perfect.”

Seraphina tilted her head back and kissed Vlad along his jawline. “As long as you are there it will be perfect no matter what, my love. The rest is just details, but you are the only thing I have eyes for.” Truthfully, they were the only two that needed to attend their wedding. Even if it were to be just them and the pups, Sera would be content. But Vladimir had not finished and it was as much his wedding as hers, so she rested her head on his chest and listened to his deep baritone as he continued.

“I will send word to my mother and father, to see if they can attend, and perhaps Castiel will also show his face, although of that I am not certain. We should also send word to your parents.” Seraphina made a face at the thought. “I know they did not wish for you to be betrothed to me, but at least they will get a wedding.” A gentle kiss was placed on her brow and Sera sighed. It had never been about a wedding.

“It would not end well if we did. Their love for me does not suppress their distaste for you, unfortunately. A wedding will not make them happy… and quite frankly we haven’t forgiven each other from the last time they were here. I’m not sure we ever will. Or wish to. But your parents were more family to me than mine ever were anyways.” The princess tried not to let too much bitterness show in her voice; the mood was meant to be a happy one after all. It wasn’t exactly a secret that she’d already had a strained relationship with her parents and it certainly hadn’t improved since Kael had died and she’d ruined their life plan for her. Power was far more important to them than happiness, her betrothal a political move and that only. And if they weren’t happy about her choosing Vladimir, they would be enraged that she had pups with him. Summer Eclipse and the surrounding ethiopian packs were not known for open mindedness and disliked outsiders as it was. Copulating with one made you a social outcast, and your children were viewed as mutts. Sera hoped they’d change this horrible idea soon, but it still seemed very prevalent. The idea of pure bloodlines was far too antiquated for the world today.

“So now, shall we take these pups and bring them to our others? Let them plan the decorations? I’m sure they will be upset if we do not include them in the planning…” Seraphina could tell that they four had stopped nursing and had settled back into slumber and she nodded.

“It’s now or never. They should be asleep for a bit now. It’ll certainly be easier to introduce the other three to them this way.” She couldn’t imagine the trio would like to be awoken by four whining puppies. “Decorations should keep them occupied, and hopefully mean they’re aren’t so difficult to keep an eye on because that’s now become far more difficult for me and even you, as talented as you are, can’t be in three places at once.” Sera stood up and blinked profusely, fully feeling the effects of the night’s events on her. Exhaustion, hunger, and pain were the three sharpest feelings at the moment and she wobbled briefly before finding her balance and shaking her head to try and shake some of tiredness away. “I’ll grab Maui and Roan if you take Liora and Iku.” A set of stretching followed to wake up her legs a bit more before Sera bent down and gently picked up the pair and left the outcropping. She kept her pace rather slow, not wanting to jostle the babes around too much lest they wake up. In the back of her mind, something Vlad had said jumped out at her and she furrowed her brow in thought. It had been… unexpected, concerning even and she resolved to ask him about it as soon as they returned to their den.

The princess gently placed Maui and Roan a few feet away from the (thankfully) still sleeping trio and waited while Vladimir deposited the other two. She smiled at the sleeping brood of seven and felt a sense of pride at them. The smile faded into a more serious and worried expression however, as she now shifted to face her mate.

“What did you mean about the war that was coming? What war?” She searched his face as if it held the answers she wanted. Her mouth opened to ask him more, but a call rang out and Sera’s eyes widened at the recognition of it. It couldn’t be… “Kalgalath?” Rather than answers, she now searched Vlad for whatever emotions might be betrayed on his face. He’d forgiven Kal, but it had been sometime since the two had seen each other. “We should see what he’s back for.” She said gently, “Maybe we can save time and invite him to wedding now.” Though Sera was loathe to leave the pups as defenseless and young as they were, Kal was very important to both of them and she’d feel better if she was there with Vlad when he saw his father again.
