THE FOUNDERS OF THE LF WEB SITE THE LATE CAPT. JOE EASTWOOD BEM AND COLIN BOUTTY WERE BOTH FIERCELY ENTRENCHED IN THEIR INTENT AND ADAMANT IN THEIR BELIEF THAT THE LF WEB SITE SHOULD REMAIN AN INDEPENDENT ENTITY AND FREE FROM OUTSIDE INFLUENCE. IN FURTHERANCE OF THAT END ALL SUGGESTIONS THAT THE WEB SITE BE ALLIED TO OR INDEED INTEGRATED INTO THE FUSILIER ASSOCIATION OR ANY OTHER GROUPING WERE FIRMLY REJECTED. THE ETHOS OF INDEPENDENCE REMAINS THE SAME. :SMILIES (Emoticons)

Good afternoon Dennis
Many thanks for your insight into his service. I too thought that the ammunition incident must have been quite early (possibly when in France shortly after his enlistment? ) and before he was posted out to India. The tone of the story as related by his daughter about being summoned by the CSM and his response etc, is in my view suggestive of a Junior rank being summoned, rather than that of an Officer. He was certainly attached / seconded to the 5th Frontier Force Rifles (not the Assam Rifles) and indeed one of the photographs shows him wearing a cap / hat with the cap badge of the FF Rifles, now the Frontier Force Regiment of the Pakistani Army. As you say it's probable that he was sent to 5FFR to finish his term of engagement. As the photos show, at one point they were heavily involved in the construction of a new road in the North West Frontier area. Having been commissioned in September 1945 and ' indentured ' so to speak to a three year tour of India, that would of course take him well towards the end of 1948 at the earliest. It is known he left the Army in the late 1940's (1949 or 50) following a tour of Northern Ireland. He was thereafter according to his daughter's account, a successful musician during the 1950's. Sadly our source of information was rather limited when compiling the feature.
Regards
Geoff P
