OPINION POLL: NEW RULES & SITE UPDATES

Hi everyone, following some recent suggestions and our recent rule changes we would like to consult you all about potential changes/additions to the game and the specifics of some of the new rules. We would appreciate if everyone, or at least as many people as possible, could respond to this thread and let us know what you think we should do to make the game better for everyone.

1) Map:
Some members have expressed an interest in having a visual map made by an artist to establish the layout, size and shape of the different islands. While this would clear up the logistics for those who are interested, we know that this addition would take away somewhat from players’ creative freedom in describing the islands in their posts, therefore we would like to get a general consensus as to everyone’s opinion on this idea. Would you like a map or would you prefer complete freedom in your imagination? We are prepared to implement this suggestion IF it is the will of the majority of our players.

2) Territory Names:
The possibility of reintroducing extended territory names was suggested. For example, for those of you who might not remember, the territories used to have descriptive, alliterative names such as “Frightening Forest”, “Sandy Shore”, “Peaceful Prairie”, etc. Would you like to see the return of these or similar names, or would you prefer to keep them plain and simple as they are now?

3) Featured Player/Character:
Currently we hold votes for featured members and characters roughly once every TLI year or every 4 months IRL, but it has been suggested that we could hold them more often. Do you think they should be held more regularly, every two months for example, or do you think once a year is enough?

4) Random Events:
As you know we occasionally hold random events, such as natural disasters or predator attacks on random boards, usually about once a TLI year. It has been suggested a few times that we increase the frequency of these events, although they do not often get much interaction which is the only reason we have yet to do this. Of course, we would never make these compulsory as we would not force people’s characters into situations they don’t want to participate in. We are also exploring the possibility of introducing a small incentive or reward to participate in these events, although not something which would overshadow the perks won in our contests. Do you think random events should be held more often? Or perhaps the same frequency but more events at once? Would you participate? Would you participate if there was a small reward?

5) Featured Player/Character Prizes
It has been suggested that featured players and those who play featured characters should get a prize of some kind. We used to do this in the past, do you think a perk as a reward for getting themselves or a character featured should be re-implemented?

6) Battle Replies
Currently the deadline for replies to battles stands at 4 days, but it has been suggested that this could possibly be increased to allow more time for players who are working or otherwise busy during the week. We are open to increasing the limit to 5 days to cover a standard working week and allow a little more leniency for those working to get to their battles before they run out of time. Do you think the time limit should be increased or should it be kept the same?

7) Site Blurb
It has been suggested that we create a short blurb for the game to catch people’s attention and give a brief overview of the islands and the game’s concept. As TLI’s history is based on individuals making their own stories this would have to be a very general description, but we would not be against adding one if people are interested. Do you think we should write a blurb for the site? Do you think it would help to draw people to the game?

8) Multi-Lead Herds
We are happy to hear that so many of you were excited that we decided to officially allow herds with multiple leaders. However, introducing this rule officially means ironing out some details to avoid confusion in the future when these issues inevitably come up. One issue we are struggling with is that of battling: should the battle limit per season be counted for the herd as a whole, or each individual co-leader. Here are our problems:
If you set the limit per individual leader, this opens the possibility for herds to become very overpowered if the ‘official’ leader appoints a lot of co-leaders – suddenly this herd can fight say 5x more per season than single-lead herds and the Peak and the Lagoon. In this case the Peak and Lagoon would use their unique selling point if you could simply join a different all-mare or all-stallion herd and have all the same powers with less limits. On the other hand, individual limits might make more sense, at least in-character for herds that are being run as small, separate herds within the same territory.
One suggestion we have contemplated to try to combat this if this option was the most popular would be to possibly limit the number of co-leaders that can officially be appointed and granted powers, maybe to 3 or so, in order to preserve the unique selling point of the Peak and Lagoon in the powers of every member and reduce the effectiveness of multiple leaders to harass other herds.
If you set the limit per herd (this is how raids are currently set) this puts multi-lead herds on an even playing field with the Peak and Lagoon (although they still lack something completely unique) and prevents a single herd from becoming an unstoppable force because of their chosen style. However, it does limit the options for those who are running smaller combined herds and the options for herd structure and plots.
Which of these options do you think would be better to set the battle limits? Do you have any suggestions to give the Peak and Lagoon something more unique now that multiple leaders can be introduced elsewhere? Can you think of any other potential issues regarding multiple leaders that we need to consider? We appreciate that this point in particular is quite tricky, but we hope you understand why we want to tackle this now before it comes up in game.
