News - SUMMER

Summer has arrived. The world has been well at peace, and others seem to be trying to take advantage. They believe we are lazy and complacent. We are no such thing. Remain vigilante, friends and family.

Give your congratulations to Maiko. She has been promoted to Blizzard; she earned it.

We also have an activity check going. Please reply so I can make adjustments accordingly. Check will go for an entire month so we can hopefully capture everyone.

As always, if you have need of me, do not hesitate to find me.

Return to Lunar Children
Be careful what you say, brother.

Ever since he’d returned home injured, Mabel refused to leave her father behind. More often than not, she was always within sight of him unless she was off exploring, though her explorations stayed fairly close to home. Certainly, while everyone else hurried ahead, she had no intention of leaving her papa behind. She kept pace with him stubbornly and only parted when they reached the ridge again. Settling in next to Larry, she watched as her other brother darter forward when their mama looked like she was distressed. She didn’t know who the other grown wolf was but Mama seemed to know him.

Mabel watched as her Papa moved past her and Larry to join their Mama. Shortly after he got there, Jaime ran back to join them, confirming that the stranger was upsetting their mother. A soft growl bubbled up in the young girl’s chest and she took a step forward, putting herself a bit ahead of her brothers. Maybe it was silly but she felt it was her responsibility to keep them safe or at least be a barrier of some sort, however meager. ”Mama knows him. He looks...like trouble.” Her green eyes narrowed, unaware that her papa seemed to have come to the same conclusion.

Maude jumped slightly when Jaime came darting up and his presence seemed to soothe her somewhat, or at least allowed her to divert her attention from what she was sure was a moment of reckoning, to the safety of her child. As he tried to posture and look intimidating, Maude nudged the back of his head lightly with her nose. She’d not let anything happen to Jaime, not that she thought her brother would do anything to her son, let alone any pup. He might be a bit of a jerk and a bit too honest at times, but he wasn’t about to attack children or really anyone. Still, Muade felt that the perfect little bubble she’d been living in was about to break. The pups were weaned and Beltran was getting better and better by the day. Now here was Royce to give her a reality check that she didn’t want.

When Beltran joined them, Maude couldn’t keep her gaze from finding him even as he shooed Jaime away. Her ear twitched as she heard Royce snort derisively. Immediately her expression went slack and she wondered what had been there that he found so amusing. Blinking, Maude turned her attention back to Royce to find him scowling at Beltran. ”Bel, this is my broth--”

”This is the guy that you let me think you were dead for? Seriously, Mud?” Royce curled his lip, the angry pink slit drawing apart slightly over his fang in the process. It was probably a low blow, using the childhood nickname that his sister despised, but he was pissed. He’d spent the better part of a year looking for Maude and thinking that she was probably dead, especially after finding her blood last Spring. Now he’d found her shacked up with some guy with a limp and three pups that were now quite obviously hers. Then there had been the way that Maude was making calf eyes at the damn guy. She was in too deep. He had to pull her out before this guy completely destroyed what was left of her heart. He’d seen the toll each failed attempt at love had taken on his sister. She was sullen and anxious and overly critical of herself. Another heartbreak and he was sure there’d be nothing of his baby sister left.

Ignoring the way his sister flinched at the use of her despised pet name, Royce narrowed his eyes at the darker wolf. ”Who says I’m the troublemaker here? I’ve been looking for my sister for nearly a year. What did you do to her?”

Maude shriveled inside as Royce flung that horrid name at her and sing-song voices rang in her head. Andriel insisting that she had mud on her. Never feeling clean enough. Hurt flared in her earth-toned eyes, hurt and a hint of fear. She didn’t want Beltran to see her as plain. She didn’t want him to hear about her past and how she wasn’t good enough. She just wanted to keep things the way they were. She wanted his emerald eyes to smile when he looked at her. She couldn’t stand to seek out those eyes with the voices in her head pointing out all her flaws, with her brother standing there judging.

It wasn’t until his tone turned vaguely threatening that her head snapped up from where it had drooped and her eyes flared, for a moment more gold then brown. Her unruly, wiry hair practically stood on end as she took a step forward, her lip curling as she snarled. ”He didn’t do anything! He saved me!” Her voice grew softer and a little hoarse. ”He stayed.”

”Until he doesn’t!”

Maude recoiled and her fur seemed to deflate along with her ire as melancholy and uncertainty claimed her. Her brother was just voicing her fears. Somehow he’d always known her greatest fears and unrepentant jerk that he was, he never hesitated to force her to try and face them. He was always dragging her back into reality when all she wanted to do was stay stuck in her head where she could pretend that she was beautiful and desirable and loved. She didn’t doubt that her brother loved her in his own obtuse way, but the kind of love she craved had nothing to do with her brother. The love she felt for Beltran...her heart twisted and ached at the thought of losing that. A soft whine escape her as her gaze dropped to the ground, brows furrowed.
