Not our experience I'm afraid. We only have suet and black oil sunflower, and though they prefer the suet, they are often on the seed feeder, tossing the seed around to feed the squirrels and chippies, and chowing down themselves. They are clumsy on the feeder, but they figure it out eventually. You can get feeders with weight-sensitive perches (adjustable to the size of critter/bird you want to exclued). These do nothing to discourage squirrels and chipmunks--they just work around the perch--but the grackles aren't that smart. However, you will likely block access to blue jays and some other more desirables of similar size. Still worth considering if your throwing arm is getting tired!
