The roses have wilted…
...the violets are dead...

He had rammed into her not once, but twice, and then had pushed her further back onto her rump and then further until she was in her most vulnerable position - flat on her back. It was in this position that he had access to all of her most vital organs and to all of the places where a strike would most likely mean death. There was her neck, the sweet stretched tubular structure that housed the most delicate things - the wind pipe that provided her oxygen, her carotid artery which brought blood to her brain, and her jugular vein which brought it all back to her heart and lungs so that the oxygenation process could continue and life go on. He had shoved his snout there, threatened to pierce it with his teeth… And as he backed away his muddied gaze swept lower, to her rib cage - in this particular position, he could open his jaws wide and simply clamp down, piercing through the intercostal muscles and leaving gashes in her thoracic cavity…Quite the painful way to go, painful and slow. And then, of course, there was her abdominal cavity that housed all of her organs. A puncture wound through the muscle there would lead to peritonitis and then sepsis and then death. Ah… The choices.

But despite the position that she was in, despite all of his threats, she insisted that she did not know where her brother was, that she could not give Perdere a location. No it was time for him decide whether he believe her. Perdere had no siblings, but he knew how much Akuji loved his own sister. Although they had their feuds, back when she was still alive that is, he would do anything for her. Except… One’s own life was often weighed above the life of another, especially if it was not their offspring. It was a good argument for either case… But given the fear across her eyes, he believed her. He believed that this time, she was telling him the truth about Tiresias. Just as abruptly as he had leapt upon her, he crawled off of her, and stood to the side enough so that he could reach around her nape and grab her scruff. Unceremoniously, he jerked up hard to pull her first to her side, and then most of the way to her paws. And then, he combed down the out of hair places upon the spot that he just bit, tasting in every delectable lick the fear that was emanating from Shilo‘s coat.

Now, that wasn’t that hard, was it? So you say you were part of Crith-Thalhainn? Perhaps we should go visit there, so that I may ensure that you get home… Safely. And make sure that I can have a discussion with your alpha.

There was no way for Perdere to know that it was no longer Nimueh who was in charge of the pack, who held the throne, but instead Sindicate. The trip that they were about to make would change both of their lives permanently. It would not be straight and it would take a while for them to get there, but it would change both of them. The thought of distance crossed over Perdere‘s mind and he glanced sideways at Shilo. He knew of her condition, by way of Akuji‘s own memories, and knew that she would not be able to make it a single trip without sleep or rest. Hell, with Akuji’s busted leg, Perdere would have a hell of a time of it as well. Travel had simply not been the same after the moose accident where he had broken one of his back legs.

All right, I think that is enough excitement for one day. I know I just picked you up, but lay back down, go to sleep. I’m going to go catch us a meal and then we can have dinner and sleep before we head out. Don’t think about trying to run - there’s nowhere you could go where I could not find you. Don’t think of trying to escape in this cage… Oh I am sorry, I meant to say cave. I will chase you down, and the punishment will be severe to say the least. Now wait here like the good little girl that you are, try to get some sleep. You are going to be fine.” The trip was likely going to take a week, or maybe more, depending on how slow Shilo‘s ability to travel was. He was in no rush… And perhaps he could get some more answers out of her queen. For his sake, for his freedom, he needed answers. It didn’t matter what he would have to do in order to get them… Without hesitating, Perdere turned around and walked out of the cave - fear would keep her here - the fear of what could happen was usually much worse than the fear of what already had happened. It was the uncertainty, the guesswork - it allowed one’s imagination to take effect. He went down to the river to fish, keeping an eye on the territorial water buffalo guarding its shore, and snatched out a few river trout. He grabbed the three of them in his maw and trotted back up toward the cave. His muddied gaze swept around, looking for Shilo.

Anyone hungry?
