Cypress

tomorrow i will come back, leader of the whole pack

Sensing his gaze, Cypress glanced at Thoth, her stomach flip-flopping a little at the look on his face at that moment. She wasn't sure what she'd done, or said, right, but... damn, she hoped she did it again soon. Preferably when they weren't in such a tenuous situation. She bit her lip, turning her attention back to Emilia. Survival first, then everything else. No, no. She couldn't get too far ahead of herself, an accidental kiss and that look didn't mean what she wanted it to mean. Right?

Emilia's words made the sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach even worse. "No ill?" She nearly snorted out loud. Thoth, maybe, but them? She wasn't so ignorant she didn't know the only reason she and Danny were still around was because of their connection with Thoth. Danny knew it too, his face calm but impassive as he considered her words.

Thoth summed up his thoughts rather eloquently, though of course Danny wouldn't have announced it quite so... perfectly. No one missed the atmosphere cool several degrees. Both leaned slightly, subtly, closer towards Thoth. Cypress's frown deepened, her brow crinkling with blatant, unabashed dislike; who cared if people worshipped Thoth? How was that his fault? If she just let them go back to Shaman, then what would it matter? Of course, from what Poppy said, Shaman wasn't exactly safe either (and not just for the obvious reasons) but... Gods, she just wanted to get them back home.

Cypress flinched as if she'd been slapped at Thoth's words, her gaze instantly snapping towards his face in an expression of naked fear. She lowered her gaze quickly and trembled, hands fisting impotently in her lap. Danny seemed just as shell-shocked, his mouth slightly ajar. Him and Cy, they were disposable. But Thoth? And if he wasn't safe, then they...

Disgust flickered on Danny's features, his lip curling a little at Emilia's calmly discussing fucking murder like weather at the table.

Not if I'm here, Danny thought quietly, saying nothing. His magic couldn't do everything, but like hell he'd let his friend die in front of him. Thoth spoke a second later and Cypress nodded shakily. She stopped as Emilia's final comment sent fear racing down her spine on icy feet. She didn't look at Thoth this time, because she already knew the answer. Emilia had him pegged. Thoth was loyal to a fault - it was one of the things she loved about him, but...

She met Danny's eyes over the table, finding the same expression of sudden, horrible understanding. They weren't here because they needed Thoth calm. They were here to sign Thoth's death warrant. They were going to get him killed, just by existing. Cypress planted her feet, having every intention of doing... something, anything. Fight and flight warred with each other in her mind; did she run, try to make a distraction? Or did she stand her ground and hope she had more than a snowball's chance in hell of defeating this woman?

Danny gave a twitch of his head, a subtle warning.
