THE FOUNDERS OF THE LF WEB SITE THE LATE CAPT. JOE EASTWOOD BEM AND COLIN BOUTTY WERE BOTH FIERCELY ENTRENCHED IN THEIR INTENT AND ADAMANT IN THEIR BELIEF THAT THE LF WEB SITE SHOULD REMAIN AN INDEPENDENT ENTITY AND FREE FROM OUTSIDE INFLUENCE. IN FURTHERANCE OF THAT END ALL SUGGESTIONS THAT THE WEB SITE BE ALLIED TO OR INDEED INTEGRATED INTO THE FUSILIER ASSOCIATION OR ANY OTHER GROUPING WERE FIRMLY REJECTED. THE ETHOS OF INDEPENDENCE REMAINS THE SAME. :SMILIES (Emoticons)

The Maden family originally from Manchester are planning next week to visit France to see the area where our Grandfather Herbert Maden was captured on 27th May 1918 during the third battle of aisne. He enlisted age 19 in 1915 and saw service in Salonica 1915, 3rd lancs fusiliers bury after contracting malaria, then finally in May 18 he joined up with the 11th battalion lancs fusiliers we assume as they left eypres area and headed towards Reims where he was captured on 27th May. He survived the war and went on to have a large family 8 children and so a large family has emerged. We plan to lay a wreath to the Lancs Fusiliers at Soissons memorial next week and visit the known graves of a couple of fusiliers who fell that day. If anyone would like a cross poppy laid at the memorial please message. Kind regards Simon Maden
