It was a delicious prospect – the discovery of a mutation completely isolated to the kalak bloodline, one which she knew that The Scientist would have fun studying and playing with. Hopefully, it would one of many new gifts that she would find in this new place, in this new world. Yayoi had to hold herself back, in order to prevent herself from showing any affection toward Eisukuro to calm him. She could tell that he was worried, anxious even in the presence of this unknown creature. He was so on guard, so protective, seemingly forgetting that Yayoi Miyako was also one of the cardinal four, seemingly forgetting that Yayoi was also a warrior. More than that, Eisu had seemed to forget that he was never meant to protect her – only Ainae. Still, the action touched her, made her reach out and want to touch him, caress him, soothe his discontent. But this creature, this Chiroptera, this Nyfiken – he was an unknown, something and someone that she could not trust, not now, perhaps not ever. Even with the milky haze to his gaze, Yayoi knew that the blind sometimes saw more than any others. And so she ignored Eisu’s tenseness, and instead pushed forward with the negotiations with the winged varg. For that was what this was – a set of delicate negotiations dancing around the way that she would convince him to join Mona Toforan. Of course, Eisu had insisted on having the last word – never once leaving out her full title, and at least now it seemed that he was on her page – encouraging Nyfiken to join the pack, emphasizing the high points of Yayoi’s speech. Throughout the whole interaction, the winged varg opened his wings bit by bit, easing in to exposing his full form. And Yayoi raised her brows, appearing as interested as she pleased, sensing that the creature was one who praised himself highly – after all, when he had had spoken, his words had been clipped, concise, giving away only what he needed to. And finally… finally came a speech.

‘I do not fear the world or those that live in it. This peril you speak of is no matter. And surely I could learn of this world on my own as well, it is not as if I am confined to these caverns if I do not agree to your terms. However, it may be beneficial to have a proper guide, for the beginnings at least. So I will come to explore this pack and see how I feel from there. See if it can hold any interest to me after living in a different world for so long.’

Yayoi shrugged a single shoulder before nodding, her head tilting from one side to the other. “I can understand wishing to delve into a pack in order to understand whether it is one which you want to fully join. It is a smart and careful move for you to make before pledging your loyalty. But you must understand that we are not stupid, nor slow, nor easy to trust. So you should not make the mistake that I trust you – I understand you are smart, especially from where you come from. But this is a new world, one that you do not understand, with rules that you do not understand. Whatever rules of etiquette you are used to do not hold up in a world like this, in our world. I will grant you temporary passage into my sister’s pack… if you choose not to stay, that will be your choice – you will be granted one month of probation. But if you are accepted into the pack, if you join us and then betray us – understand that your suffering will be great. We protect our own to a fault… but we demolish our enemies without hesitation. I do not wish to scare you – I only wish to best realize your potential to better our pack, with your smarts, your brain. Our pack is currently made up of mainly warriors – we are cunning yes, but mainly made of physical strength. I think you would help give the pack variety – and not just because of your physical attributes.”

Yayoi smiled, and tilted her head back toward the Chiroptera to stare directly into his milky pools. “It is your choice. Should you choose to join, exit the cave, follow the river north east til you find a pack encased in a dark shadow – that is Mona Toforan. Only by passing through the shadow can you enter the pack – we will be waiting.” Without another word, she turned away from him, bumped her hip into Eisu and nodded toward the mouth of the cave. Now was the time to give Nyfiken space – for him to decide whether to join them… or not.
