CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster.
Messages posted in the last 24 hrs. are in White.

George Gilbert PRICE Private 76437 2nd Btn. Northumberland Fusiliers

On Sunday 4th November this year I will be visiting the Crossroads Cemetary, Fontaine Au Bois. Nord Pas de Calais, France to lay a poppy wreath on the grave of my uncle who was killed in action on 4th November 1918 on the edge of the Foret de Mormal. (The battle of Sambre)

During my enquiries into his death I have established that he was killed with 3 other members of the 2nd Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, probably by an artillery shell and that initially all four were probably buried where they fell. It appears that their bodies were exhumed on 17th November 1918 and they were laid to rest in the Crossroads Cemetery. All four lie in adjacent graves.

The detail of the three others are as follows:

(1) Cpl. James DAVISON 14563 aged 21. He was the son of Mrs Caroline Howey of 12 Sycamore Street. Ashington. Northumberland.
There is some suggestion that Corporal Davison was the recipient of the Military Medal. I am attempting to establish whether this is correct and if so if it was for his actions on the date of his death.

(2) Pte. Archibald Francis BOWERS 55798 aged 26, the son of Frank and Fanny Bowers of Squirell Cottage, Churt, Farnham, Surrey. He was the husband of of Dorothy May Bowers of 47 Newland Road, Worthing.

(3) L/Cpl W. Lillico 19/514, He was a member of the 19th Btn. Northumberland Fusliliers attached to the 2nd Battalion.
(I have been unable to find anything further about L/Cpl Lillico.)

Information in respect of many of the soldiers of WW1 is not easy to obtain. Many of the records were destroyed during the blitz, I therefore would appreciate any further information about the three who died with my uncle and and would of course be delighted to hear from any relative of those who fell with my uncle.

During my visit I will not only remember my uncle, but those who fell with him and the many other 2nd Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers whose final resting place is Fontaine au Bois.
