Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

The sound of a struggled nearby seemed to go unnoticed by the young pup as she continued to wallow in self-pity. Had it not been for the kindness of the stranger, Idrisa would have been none the wiser of his presence. She would have returned to her den and slept another painful night away. As it was, however, fate had other plans for her. The subtle sound of pawsteps approaching forced her to look up just in time to see two carcasses dropped directly in front of her. One was a chipmunk, the other was a familiar rabbit. Behind them were four ash colored paws belonging to some wolf.

Slowly, violet-blue eyes scanned upwards until they met up with the bright green ones of a stranger. For a moment, nothing was said as Idrisa gazed at the uniquely splotched orbs. Then, the smell of the prey dragged her vision back down. Without a word, she stood up on shaky legs and devoured the chipmunk. Moments later, the fat rabbit followed and for the first time in weeks, her belly felt full of fresh meat.

The sight was anything but ladylike as she scarfed the meal down. At one point, he had asked her a barrage of questions, but she ignored them as she ate. Only when she had picked the bones clean did she finally return her attention to the stranger, licking the blood off her muzzle and sitting on her haunches. "Thanks for sharing your food, not many would have done that. I'm Idrisa, the once princess of Asteraia!" she said, hoping the useless title would impress this loner. "I was travelling with my brother, but we were separated. My parents are… gone." her voice trailed off.

Several times she had thought about returning to Taviora, but her stubbornness and pride had prevented her from returning to the loving embrace of her folks. She had promised Aspis they would face the world together, depending on no one else. She was holding her end of the bargain, but where was he? "I had every intention of going after that rabbit!" she lied. "I just lost it. I was going to track it down, but you got it before I could!" She wasn't about to admit to this complete stranger that she had simply given up. She looked at him directly in the eyes, as if daring him to challenge her. "Who are you, anyway? Why would you want to help me? I thought that loners only looked after themselves."
