Thought I'd mention of a new airman aircrew website in the mill. The current one must be 12 to 14 years old and I feel is well past its shine, plus it's a pain in the arse to work on due to its layout. As such, I'm in the process of writing a new one with a more modern and appealing feel.
The current site has over 23,000 files spread across 3,000 folders adding-up to 2.67GB. I reckon I can halve this without losing the site's impact.
It's going to be quite a mammoth job particularly in bringing the thousands of photographs across. This part of the process will be left until last.
My aim is to get the primary part done first, ie., the rolls and individual profiles. The latter will all be redone. These are without doubt the most important aspect of the website. The pics can come later. Speaking of the pics; many of these are undersized at around 600 pixels or less. I intend to fix this by enlarging them to around 900 to 1000 pixels or more.
I hope to have the primary part of the website (rolls and individual profiles) done in the next couple of months.
By early January, I will provide a link to the new site so that people may have a squiz, albeit, the site still be largely uncompleted. Unfortunately, it all takes time.
I will leave the old website insitu until such time as the new site is fully completed.
