Selene was cold. That was what happened when you crossed the ocean in winter. That was what happened when you fled across the sea in search of something bigger, better, more absolutely and entirely grand than yourself. It was a dumb idea, really, but she’d been swept out further than she’d meant to go. All of it had taken her away, until there was nothing left and she was adrift. It wasn’t so bad, really. Aside from the cold. Aside from… well, everything else that was going on. Everything else that was going wrong.
Didn’t matter too much now. Selene was able to pull herself from the frigid sea, shaking as much water as possible from her coat. Wouldn’t want to freeze. Wouldn’t want to freeze any more than she already was. Darkness would come soon, sooner than you’d think. Nights were long now, seeming absolutely endless. At least she’d found land before it had truly set in. Selene would count her blessings tonight.
Still, in this weather, a lone wolf was in danger. She was too small to really make it through the rest of the winter alone. Danger. All of it was danger. No matter. Best to look confident in the face of a new challenge, right? Squaring her shoulders, she peered carefully out over the horizon and the riverside. If she was going to explore a new land, why not make this the place she started.
