She lays on the sandy shore, her eyes focused on the clouds above, watching as the blue sky is painted in reds and purples. Her mind is running a thousand miles an hour, floating between topics and spinning convoluted webs of thought. If you had told Nyxx that one day she would find herself alone in a new world, she would have laughed, asked what drugs you were on, and questioned where she could score some. The old Nyxx felt like a distant memory now. Her old self had died months before she had actually been murdered at the hands of her boyfriend.
Murdered. What an odd word to actually have meaning to her. She had been killed, her last breath had left her lungs as her blood flow steadied to a trickle. The world had gone black and her thoughts had ended as she slipped into death. She had heard stories of people seeing a brilliant light, serene and comforting. Nyxx had not seen anything except darkness....until her eyes opened up again.
What she had once thought to be the afterlife, she now realized was instead a new beginning. Gone was the murdering psycho, gone were her adoring fans, gone was her fame and fortune.
A tinge of sorrow twisted at her heart as she remembered her Swedish parents. Her dad had passed away right before her big debut as an EDM DJ, but her sweet mother had stood by her side until Nyxx had pushed her away. It wasn’t until she had gotten off the drugs that she had reached back out to her mom with promises of being a better daughter. Promises that would never be fulfilled. She wonders what her mother thought upon hearing of her death. She had tried to make her amends and she only hoped that her mother had believed her when she said I love you for the last time.
Shaking her head she sits up from her spot on the sand, hands running through aquamarine hair to get some of the sand out. Her eyes wander over the the water’s edge and an idea floats through her mind. This area of the beach is rather secluded and she hasn’t seen anyone all day...which means no one would have to see her either. Probably for the best, no one should ever have to see her ugly form unless it was dressed in cute clothing.
She can feel the insecurity, the self doubt, and the hatred for her own body slowly rising up within her. She pauses for a moment, taking a few deep breaths and humming a few bars of one of her favorite songs to center herself. She had no time for those feelings right now. She needs to clear the tangled mess of her mind instead of making it worse. With the idea to skinny dip tossed out the window, she peers down at her outfit. Black leggings, white tank top, and her neon yellow jacket stare back at her. Slowly, she slips her arms out of the jacket, folding it and setting it down upon a rock. On top of the jacket she places the yellow headphones she is never without, nestling them into the soft fabric.
Without another though she takes off into the ocean, letting the waves lap at her as she dives into them. She comes up for air, smiling to herself as water falls down her face, tasting the salty water around her. A quick dip into the ocean waves was a simple, easy, and wonderful way to step back and clear one’s mind.
She enjoys the gentle ocean for a while, letting the water ease her spirit. Finally, after some time, she makes a move to head back towards the shore.
As she walks through the sand and waves, she feels something nudge her ankle before gently wrapping around it. Her brows raise as she feels the pressure tighten slightly and ease over and over. Surely it’s just some seaweed wrapped around and the pressure is nothing more than the gentle push of the waves. Keeping that explanation forefront in her mind, she reaches the clear shallows and peers down to grab the seaweed.
”WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU?” Her eyes widen as she peers down at the little...what was this thing? It was like a shark...but also a puppy? A little light blue shark head shoved onto a puppy style body without the fur. Nyxx had never in her wildest dreams seen anything like this. Not even when she was tripping on drugs. Wait...she totally isn’t on drugs right now...which totally means this is either a dream or very real.
She peers back down at the creature that has lightly grabbed her ankle in it’s mouth. It doesn’t press it’s teeth into her skin, but holds her gently as though nibbling her like a small puppy or kitten would.
Mine.
The voice breaks through the confused fog of her mind for a moment. Momentarily forgetting the creature attached to her leg, she whips her head around, searching for the sound of the voice.
Fairy! Mine!
It speaks again and this time she realizes that the voice she hears is not a normal audible sound. Something is speaking directly into her mind....
Her eyes drop down the the creature, watching as it gently releases her ankle and stands on it’s back legs, placing it’s front against her own leg.
Fairy! Cuddles!
This creature was talking to her. Telepathically. She knows she should be terrified, that she should probably run away and never look back, but -something- is holding her here. She wants to be near this thing, she wants to be with it, and she has no idea why.
Slowly, she reaches down and picks up the creature from the shallow water. She holds it in her arms like a newborn baby, watching as it nestles down against her chest. ”You...you want cuddles?”
Cuddles! Warm Cuddles!
The creature responds and as she makes her way towards her jacket on the shore, she knows that she is somehow connected to the little thing.
”I don’t suppose you have a name, do you?”
She watches as it shakes it’s head, it’s shark tail wagging.
”Well you need a name! Damn, you are a cute little thing. Hmm...how about Drake?”
The creature’s tail stopped wagging and it stared up at her shaking it’s head.
”Okay. Well at least we know you aren’t a rap fan. Hmmm...well you are a shark? Puppy? You have fins....oh! How about Fins! That’s cute, right?”
As soon as the name left her lips, his tail began to wag again and his little head nodded. ”Fins it is! Well Fins, First things first, we need to find out what you are and why you are calling me yours.”
My fairy!
”Right. That’s what I am talking about. Here, you sit right here beside my jacket.” she slowly set him down beneath her things as she moved to wring the water from her hair. When she turned back to where she had set Fins, she saw that he had leapt down from the rock and had her yellow jacket somehow wrapped around him. ”Fins! Hey, I need that!” She laughed as she grabbed her headphones that laid discarded upon the rock.
At the sound of her voice though, Fins started to run up towards the town, the yellow jacket billowing out behind him like a cape. ”FINS! Hey! No! Bad....shark puppy thing! Bring that back.”
Mine!
And with that, the chase was on.
