Nelson was struck in the shoulder by a musket ball . He called for Hardy and ordered him to fetch his scarlet jacket to cover the blood so his men would not see it and not be demoralised. Feeling ill he retired to his cabin and ordered Hardy to keep him up to date on the battle.
Hardy appeared and reported the were listing... The mainsail was in tatters rendering the ship unable to manoeuvre and the French were on both Starboard and Leeboard sides. Hardy then asked "What shall I do sir?"......Nelson replied "Fetch me my Brown Trousers_"

This is true... honest.....Bill Duffy
